Roger Jr. Forever 19.
"I wonder what kind of a man he would be," says Luella. "Paul, his brother (a police officer in California), is just a year younger than Rog. So I look at Paul and I wonder if Rog would have looked like him. I always wonder. It's just always there."
Roger Jr. enlisted in the Army a year after graduating from Benilde High School.
He was a college student who enlisted after a professor chided students about getting draft deferments while poor kids went to Vietnam. The big brother in a rollicking Irish Catholic family of six children from Richfield became a private in the 1st Air Cavalry.
In March 1970, when he got his orders for Vietnam, the whole family escorted him to the airport....."
