if you wondered where Weapons of Mass Destruction are....

Global warming is now a weapon of mass destruction

It kills more people than terrorism, yet Blair and Bush do nothing

John Houghton
Monday July 28, 2003
The Guardian

If political leaders have one duty above all others, it is to protect the security of their people. Thus it was, according to the prime minister, to protect Britain's security against Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction that this country went to war in Iraq. And yet our long-term security is threatened by a problem at least as dangerous as chemical, nuclear or biological weapons, or indeed international terrorism: human-induced climate change.

As a climate scientist who has worked on this issue for several decades, first as head of the Met Office, and then as co-chair of scientific assessment for the UN intergovernmental panel on climate change, the impacts of global warming are such that I have no hesitation in describing it as a "weapon of mass destruction".

1. Also known as
'not being able to see the forest for the trees'.

* has locked in extractive industries' (oil, coal, gas, lumber) short-term profits while causing irreversible harm to the planet and the public's health.

The ONLY good thing to come out of this administration is that their idiotic zeal could actually work against the GOP for years to come.

2. In this case unfortunately its not only Bush and Blair
Here in Canada, PM Chretien signed Kyoto against great opposition. The only reason that he did it is because he's retiring anyhow and he knows its the right thing to do. His successor Paul Martin is a neo-con lite so we'll be be back to handing out favours to corporations as soon as he gets in.

Global warming is an incredibly underreported story. Here, the forests in BC were shut down for weeks, its never been this hot and dry before. Even today it was 95 degrees out, it should be 65 or 70 max this time of year. And I'm seeing more and more of those new big stupid gas guzzling SUV's around in the city than ever, not that they are the entire cause but they sure don't help matters.

3. PM Chretien
has done everything possible to get his agenda through before Paul Martin takes over. WHO IS Paul Martin and why won't he tell us?

I'm afraid....I'm very afraid!
