Clark and his team need to get their act together.

THE MISTAKEN REGISTRATION. Is Wesley Clark right about his voter registration status, or is the voter registrar in his home Pulaski County, Ark., and his own campaign consultant right?

Last Friday in Manchester, we conducted a one-on-one interview with the new Democratic Presidential candidate.

We asked Clark (quoting now from our own tape): “How long have you been a registered Democrat?”

Clark answered, “About, um, oh, I think it was maybe the third of September. Prior to that I wasn’t anything. In Arkansas, you don’t register for parties, you vote in primaries and, of course, I voted in the Democratic primary.”

Yesterday, we checked this week’s edition of Business Week, dated Oct. 1. It reports that Clark has yet to register as a Democrat, even though he’s running for the Democratic Presidential nomination.

Clark spokesman Kym Spell told us last night that Clark was mistaken about his registration in his Union Leader interview. “He had filled out the paperwork but it never got down to the office,” she said.

1. Question: Why does Clark need to get back to Arkansas to file as a Dem?

“We’ve got it here (in Little Rock),” she said. And when he returns there, she said, he’ll file it.

“Sorry about that,” Spell added.

And if he is supposed to file it in person, why the heck did he say he had already registered?

I know this is nitpicky but I don't get it.

2. He probably should get this cleared up
Also keep in mind that the Manchester Union-Leader is a very conservative paper.

3. Lets dissect this
Last Friday, September 26, this reporter asked Clark about his registration. He said he'd been registeed Democrat for "about a third" of september. Which would mean about Sept 20th, a week before the interview. Now, on Oct 2, less than a week after the interview with Clark, on of Clarks aids said the paperwork hadn't been sent out. Doesn't this make sense? We are talking a short time frame here.

If Clark wanted to lie he never would have said he voted for Ford, Nixon, Regan and Bush I. Because none of those things to be proved. He was never registered as a republican....but as an independent.

So what the hell is the big deal?

6. It's just very sloppy.
At least we're getting to the bottom of this ridiculousness.

8. read it again
He said he'd been registeed Democrat for "about a third" of september.

read it again. the article cited him saying ``About, um, oh, I think it was maybe the third of September. Prior to that I wasn’t anything.''

not "1/3 of september", but "THE third of september".

7. Here's another few bits of sloppiness
http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/7063.htm

1) Wesley Clark was registered as a lobbyist when he jumped into the presidential race, but he has yet to actually register as a presidential candidate - or even enroll as a Democrat.

Clark's opponents were having a field day yesterday with the retired general's gaffes.

"The only question is whether he is a Democratic lobbyist or a Republican lobbyist," scoffed Erik Smith, spokesman for Rep. Richard Gephardt (Mo.).

"I cannot believe that this party is even considering nominating someone who's not only not a Democrat, but is a registered Washington lobbyist," said Jano Cabrera, spokesman for Sen. Joe Lieberman (Conn.).

Fabiani said that formal papers terminating Clark's lobbyist license were sent off yesterday.

2) The Federal Election Commission also said yesterday it still hasn't received a statement of Clark's candidacy, although the rules say a candidate must file a declaration within 15 days of spending or raising $5,000.
