Brothers come home from Iraq together, but only one is living

ALWAYS FAITHFUL
Defining a life and a legacy
Eric Montgomery served alongside his brother in Iraq, but never thought they'd come home like this
By DAVID ZUCCHINO
Los Angeles Times

MENTOR, OHIO - Eric Montgomery always pictured himself coming home from war in triumph, arm-in-arm with his big brother, fellow Marine Brian Montgomery. Brian was his idol, his boyhood protector and his barracks mate in the Iraqi desert.

The two did fly home together, but it was the worst journey of Eric's young life. The plane that carried him also carried the body of his brother, who died Aug. 1 at age 26 during an ambush that killed all six members of Brian's sniper patrol.

..........

As he spoke, the father was overcome. He sobbed. Finally, he managed to choke out, "I know Brian's in heaven because he died in hell."

1. What a horrible story
That poor kid. I can relate as my two sons were Marines, although more separated in service years.

It's a pity he's not here now. He'd be forefront in the anti-war movement.

5. tearful story
People, this war has to stop. Our brothers and sisters are dying for no reason - stories like this are truly saddening, and for what cause...
