"Tipping Point": local paper uses the I-word
I'm flabbergasted. I'm so accustomed to the MSM not-saying the obvious that it's easy to forget our local paper was bought back from the NY Times corp. by an eccentric billionaire who actually lives here. I certainly don't always agree with her editorial policy, but sometimes (imo) her staff totally nails it. Obviously this isn't the Washington Post, but what's important about it is the way regional newspapers are starting to say what needs to be said.

Our Opinion: Tipping point for Mr. Bush's war
8/24/05

Although there is plenty of blame to spread around for this war, we're struck at how virtually no talk exists about impeaching President Bush.

Perhaps for the American people, the opposition to the war in Iraq has reached the tipping point. Camping outside the president's vacation home, a mother whose soldier son died in Iraq has captured the public's attention. ....The tables, at last, appear to be turning on Mr. Bush.

SNIP
The United States needs to support our troops in Iraq -- by immediately bringing them home to their loved ones.

SNIP
The complicity for the Iraqi predicament goes beyond Mr. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and others currently in the administration.
SNIP

The Bush administration has a history of changing the rules and shifting justifications for war whenever facts emerge to contradict its past statements. The wheels are coming off its spin machine. The mainstream media, at last, is waking up a bit.

Although there is plenty of blame to spread around for this war, we're struck at how virtually no talk exists about impeaching Mr. Bush.

2. no talk about impeaching Bushler? wtf?
People have been holding up signs calling for his impeachment in mass demonstrations from day one of his Reich.

4. The editorial specifically references the MSM, not sign-holders
It's an important distinction, because what is not reported in a sense has not happened -- unless you were there. The Internet has filled a big hole in the MSM's reporting, but we can't do it all by ourselves because it just leaves too many people uninformed.

So my paper is in coastal California, sure -- but last night I read a column from the Cleveland (Ohio) Plain Dealer that harked back to the darkest days of the Vietnam War. And if Ohio's not "heartland" I don't know what is.
