The Decline of Civilization - Anthony Wade op ed

Damn, this editorial is one of the most "dense" I've seen in a while, and hits on almost everything that is wrong with this country right now and sums it up in 12 paragraphs, hitting on just about every issue facing us today, and there's so much that I think many of us identify with here. If you have some "clueless" Republican friends that wonder about your mental state, have them read this editorial (and hopefully they will really *read* it and not just pretend to do so). Perhaps some smaller minds will open up and finally start to see what we are worried about and why so many of us are pounding the drums of activism now!

The Decline of Civilization

by Anthony Wade

http://www.opednews.com

August 27, 2005

There is so much pain and death in this world. So many people with evil intent in their heart. The worst thing though, is there are so many people of good intentions, who willingly help them. Good intentions as they say pave the road to hell.

With each passing day I see more vile attacks upon a grieving mother, more roadside bombs killing our children. More death and the celebration of death. People with agendas saying the mother of a dead soldier is the one with an agenda. When their alleged grassroots efforts are exposed as being the public relations work of a GOP firm, they send out people to accuse the grieving mother of being backed by a PR firm. People on the right have called this grieving mother a “crackpot” and because people in the anti-war movement wanted to support the grieving mother, they denounce her for somehow being “affiliated” with these sources. They label the sources as “extremists”, despite the fact that the majority of Americans agree with them.

Then the more extreme people have accused the grieving mother of making it all up. Not content with that, they call her a traitor. Do you get that America? The mother, who lost a child in this war, is being called a traitor by a mouthpiece that never served in the military at all. It just does not end. People who support death want you to continue to support death. They make outlandish claims, pretend to speak for the dead soldier, and try to make you feel guilty if you do not lockstep with them. Mind you, they will not pick up a weapon and defend this country, nor have they ever. But they will demand your child’s life, for their ignoble cause.

I honestly started this piece because I was fed up and was going to stop writing. I have been at it now for a year and a half and done over 100 articles in defense of the truth. I have learned a lot along the way. I learned that the Democratic Party is no more innocent then the Republican Party. The GOP may be mugging this country and the principles upon which it was founded, but most democrats look the other way with a nod and a wink and allow the mugging to continue. They are both part of the failed system. This crystallized for me when John Kerry quit on this country six hours after the election was stolen after promising us he would not. He went back to being the millionaire Congressman; we went on for four more years of the deterioration of the fabric of this republic and the decline of civilization.

6. Thanks for posting this. Lays things out real clear.
The question again (one of them anyway)is can I continue to back and vote for establishment Democrats?
They take loot from the same people as the Republicans. They facilitate the same agenda.
It seems to me the only way forward to a more peaceful and just world requires a change in consciousness and therefore a change in behavior.
I despair of that possibility; but then I get excited about it again and keep going.
I'm glad people like Mr. Wade lay it out. It supplies a kind of bedrock orientation.
I heard Bob Scheer, Frances Fitzgerald and others on a panel on C-SPAN this morning talking about Viet Nam. One thing mentioned was that in '61 you could read about SE Asia and US policies there in newspapers and magazines.
Where's the press now? Celebrities, fear-mongering, BS in general served up with some news slipped in almost by accident.
Thank goodness for the 'net. Too bad more people don't use it to stay as informed as citizens need to be these days.
Again, thanks for posting this and recommended...

8. It was a very good editorial until he got to this part
"Big Pharma buries proof that mercury preservatives in vaccines have caused the autism explosion, no one seems to care. Our lust for greed has caused an entire generation of autistic children, and we all look the other way."

Unfortunately, he damages his credibility irreparably in my eyes when he repeats that baseless claim.

11. If he's imprecise with his facts in one case it brings into
question his precision on everything, unfortunately.

I actually emailed him and told him to take that statement out because it undermines his credibility.

One error on a peripheral subject, and his whole argument falls apart?

he's simply part of the tinfoil hat brigade.

17. No, I actually think that the rest of his arguments are spot on
which is why I think it's most unfortunate that he includes this tripe about vaccines and autism.

18. Cool.
Believe it or not, most people don't give a crap about that issue, and I am skeptical that detractors would get much traction by going off on that tangent. And I think you are correct on the science.

14. No, that's not what that says
It reports that the 2001 IOM said there wasn't enough evidence to make a definitive conclusion.

The next IOM meeting (2003 or 2004; can't remember which) said that there was enough evidence available to reject the hypothesis that thimerosol in vaccines causes autism.

**There has been not one report in the peer-reviewed scientific literature that has linked thimerosol with autism. There is not one *legitimate* scientist in the world who believes there is a link***

19. It bothers me that someone would argue that Mercury is OK ..
to be used in a vaccine.

"Methylmercury is a neurotoxin. The toxicity of methylmercury was first recognized during the late 1950s and early 1960s when industrial discharge of mercury into Minimata Bay, Japan led to the widespread consumption of mercury-contaminated fish (Harada 1995). Epidemics of methylmercury poisoning also occurred in Iraq during the 1970s when seed grain treated with a methylmercury fungicide was accidentally used to make bread (Bakir et al. 1973). During these epidemics, fetuses were found to be more sensitive to the effects of methylmercury than adults. Maternal exposure to high levels of methylmercury resulted in infants exhibiting severe neurologic injury including a condition resembling cerebral palsy, while their mothers showed little or no symptoms. Sensory and motor neurologic dysfunction and developmental delays were observed among some children who were exposed in utero to lower levels of methylmercury."

20. It bothers me that people push a non-existent association that does
nothing more than strike fear in the hearts of parents and instill guilt in the hearts of parents of autistic children. How must it feel to be the parent of an autistic child who thinks "Oh, God, if not for the vaccination I gave him, my child would be normal?"

It bothers me that parents are scared away from giving their children vaccines that protect them from very deadly childhood illnesses. It bothers me that we are seeing a resurgence in vaccine-preventable diseases. It bothers me that children are dying from illnesses we thought had been wiped out.

It bothers me that those who are pushing the link between thimerosol and autism are doing so to further their pursuit of legal restitution to line their pockets by exploiting families of autistic children.

It bothers me that these charlatans are preying on the hopes and fears of parents of autistic children and pushing non-proven "treatments" like chelation, a "therapy" that killed an autistic boy last week.

Yes, there's lots to be bothered about.

vaccines. It would seem that an alternative could be used.

24. That's already been done.
Also, there are a number of countries around the world who never had thimerosol in their vaccines, but they're seeing the same "epidemic" of autism dx that we see in the U.S.

25. I guess my final point is this...
It is ludicrous, asinine, and disgusting that our corporations and our government 'allow' a 'safe' level of highly toxic substances to be in our air, food, water, and other 'things' put into our bodies (vaccines).

And it all because of the almighty buck. These corporations save a dollar to place a 'safe level' of stuff that can kill you in their products instead of spending more time and money to provide safe consumables.

Instead of preventing a terrible situation of putting toxins in our environment - our government allows 'safe' levels.

To them I say this: Here is a glass of water - I put in a safe level of mercury - please give this glass of water to your child and let her drink it.

We need to resolve our problems at the source - not cover them up with tolerances.
