DeLay's scheme to redistrict Texas eight years early allegedly involved the Republican Committee in laundering money from corporations that would not have cared about Texas politicians if it weren't for DeLay's power in Washington. Terry Nelson, the committee official through whose hands the money passed, later became political director for President Bush's re-election campaign. This means more trouble for the White House, already beset by the indictment of a former high budget official, David Safavian, in the investigation of DeLay's lobbyist crony Jack Abramoff.

How many fire bells will it take to arouse this president and this Congress from their ethical comas? Safavian's appointments to the General Services Administration and Office of Management and Budget owed to his political credentials, as a congressional aide and partner of Grover "Drown it in the bathtub" Norquist, than to his invisible qualifications.

When will the Senate stop confirming such nominees? When will the House Ethics Committee get around to the serious rule violation issues involving DeLay's fundraising and his Abramoff-related travels? <snip>

Unfortunately, the DINO's bear some measure of responsibility for this, too. They've lost their moral compass- and it's the prime reason that so many people think that the party doesn't stand for anything, anymore- or, in the alternative- that many of its members are too cowardly to stand up for what they believe in.

Either way- who wants to vote for people like that?
