Help starting my own subversive newspaper? (Wasn't sure where to put this) |
|
I had been hoping to find some people who lived around me who would be willing to work with me on the creation and disribution of a subversive newspaper. However, that didn't work out so well. So I'm starting a newspaper by myself and wondering if you had any helpful ideas. I was thinking that I would make an issue every month and disribute it by placing copies in public locations- among magazines in doctors' waiting rooms, on store shelves, etc. It would focus on stories that the government has put gag orders on and kept out of most other newspapers, as well as discussing environmentalism, human rights, etc., and contain more information about what is happening in the rest of the world than is given by mainstream media. So....
titles, anybody? So far I was thinking of calling it the Unsold Voice, but anyone have any better ideas? I was thinking about putting an introduction on the front page that went something like this:
Twenty-six prisoners are listed by the government as location unknown. They- along with many others- never recieved trials. The significance of these dissapearances was enough to make them front page news, but not only were these dissapearances not recognized in major headlines, they never made the papers. These are the stories that slip through the cracks, and here we will give them a voice. For surrender is silent, and WE HAVE NOT SURRENDERED. This is the Unsold Voice.

1. It depends on the scale you are thinking of |
|
Back in the good old days, A. B. Dick was our friend and we mimeographed 500 "dirty purple" handbills at a time, distributed them in college areas, left them in laundromats, and stuck them up on bulletin boards and light poles.
Larger scale printing requires a source of newsprint and a printing company. It just gets prohibitively expensive to crank out hundreds of copies on a computer, copier, or at Kinkos.
Good luck. I think the day of the Revoluntionary War broadside is back upon us. With the Crown controlling all the newspapers, it's all we have left to reach people who aren't online.

You'll reach more people, it won't cost nearly as much, and you can publish whenever you want...

4. Because I want the stupid conservatives who live around me to be |
|
walking around, going about their unthinking lives, and suddenly come across something on the shelf next to the cereal they're buying and wonder, "hey, wtf?"
i was just going to start it small-scale, print up a copy and photocopy more copies. I found a copy machine that I can use for free, so...

5. Good luck to you . . . |
|
I think it's a grand idea. The Repukes will have never seen anything like it, unless for some reason they hang out in the cool part of town . . .
The articles that are posted here at DU are excellent stuff for you to work with. Clara T, among many others, routinely posts articles concerning what the bastards-in-charge are up to behind the scenes.

6. I've read some of the stuff she's posted |
|
and then not been able to sleep. In other words she's a good source of information. It sucks that it's gotten to the point where I can judge the honesty of an article based on how disturbing it is...conservative propoganda says everything's getting better. mainstream media talks of america facing challenges. truthful reporting speaks of atrocities.

. . . a part of me would like to try your idea . . . in certain redneck suburbs of KC . . .
The thought of messing with these smug idiot's little minds, with the printed word, certainly has its appeal.
