Time: "The Reagans," From One of Them (Patti)
Considering all the family secrets she's divulged over the years, I'm surprised she's saying anything.

(snip)

…Anger and vitriol always leak through if you’re a writer with those demons inside you.

I know a bit about that. In my early career as a writer, I was an angry one. In 1992 when I wrote an autobiography, we were still a family in turmoil and while I did write about healing and letting go of the past, I still had a firm grip on those grudges. Throughout the years, there have occasionally been offers to purchase the rights to my autobiography and I have always declined. Foolishly, I believed I had control over my own material. Apparently I don’t. There is a scene in “The Reagans” in which my character steals tranquilizers from my mother’s medicine cabinet. I wrote about having done that and trading those pills for amphetamines — an addiction that ravaged me from the age of fifteen well into my twenties. Many women in the Sixties were prescribed tranquilizers, and my mother never noticed hers missing, so she couldn’t have been using them too often. You won’t get this context in the CBS movie; they just wanted you to know there were drugs on the premises.

3. Patti - tends to tell truth - and I agree with "context" - and below are
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 11:32 AM by Skinner
some stuff Patti said that was not true that was in Kitty Kelley's bio of Nancy- but then there is a lot that was said to be true - including the Reagan Rape of SELENE WALTERS - that our media keeps hidden - and which I am sure was not in the CBS movie. So the need for censorship just does not seem to be there.

April 29, 1991 -- From the moment that Kitty Kelley's Nancy Reagan: The Unauthorized Biographyhit the bookstores, it has been under attack. Could the figure Kelley portrays really be the former First Lady -- petty, greedy, compassionless, a social climber and manipulator? Or is it caustic Kitty's own methods and standards that aren't so pretty -- the barrage of unattributed assertions, the jabs from some unreliable sources, the absence of context and evaluation?

"You can see that something is right about this book," Kelley maintained last week. "It is disturbing too many powerful people not to be taken seriously." As for the denials that filled the air, Kelley said, "I'm accustomed to this. I am fully prepared for people to step forward and say, 'I didn't talk to her.' "

The Reagans, whose Bel Air house was swamped with calls and flowers from well-wishers, continued on their appointed rounds. Ronald threw out the first ball at Dodgers' stadium. Nancy attended a baby shower at a Beverly Hills restaurant. Both turned up at a dinner party at industrialist Allen Poulson's house, where, according to one friend, they seemed "quite relaxed and normal."

4. Is it true that the Reagans had their 666 address changed?
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 08:17 PM by Military Brat
I'm serious. Seems like at one time they moved into a home, after he was no longer president *hiccup* and the actual address was 666. I think the home was in California. Sorry, it's been a while. I don't keep up with the Reagans. They had the address number changed, of course.

Anyone else remember this, or know anything about it? I considered it very peculiar at the time, but I'm not that superstitious about 666, even if the chimp does have three sixes in his birthdate. (July 6, 1946 at 7:26 a.m.)

I'm sure those three sixes in bush's birth time are just a coincidence ...

Edited: I found it a moment ago. Reagans moved into a California home at 666 St. Cloud Road. Nancy had it changed to 668. http://www.westword.com/extra/usworst/050996.html

5. I remember it.
Besides the Kitty Kelley book, there's a wealth of information in the two Reagan kids' books – especially Michael's. I'll bet he regrets writing it, but there was no love lost between him and his father and stepmother. He was on the outs with them while Ronnie was in the White House. His profession then was "speedboat racer," and I remember an incident where his father asked him to stop using his name in promotion letters. Ronnie and Nancy never even saw Michael's first child till he was about 3 . At the same time, Nancy was promoting her cause – "Foster Grandparents."
