Plaid Adder - Taking Our Country Forward
This is an excellent article everyone one interested in the future of the Democratic party should read!

"I'm talking about confronting the basic, foundational injustice on which public education in this country is founded: the fact that individual public schools are funded through local property taxes."

"The days are gone when the Democratic Party could meaningfully promote racial equality simply by taking a principled stand on the issues."

2. Make that two, PA
We share a number of political opinions but we diverge apparently on one key issue; namely the ability of elected politicos to make a difference once elected. From the day a successful candidate takes office that person must begin to ponder h/her reelection, must begin to amass the war chest necesary to wage a successful campaign fro reelcetion. That money comes, by and large, from the coffers of the corporations that, through the dispensing of that money, run our government.

Perhaps I am easily dismissed as way too pessimistic but I am far from that. All this talk about how Bush must be defeated at all costs simply shows how folks like to keep things simple, how they love to demonise or idolise individuals rather than see that no one man can alter the nature of our political scene, not even one with the charisma of a Kennedy or Clinton, and gaia knows we havent one of those available today.

Whether Bush sits in the oval office or whether Dean,Kerry, Lieberman or Kucinich resides there the institution remains corrupted and focussed, not upon the needs or wishes of the masses of americans , but upon the needs and wishes of those who contribute the large checks.Any alteration of the way things are done must focus upon changing the importance of political contribution, the undue influence of the money.

While Bush is a large target, and ,imo, vulnerable as all get out, the simple truth as I see it is that we will get no miracles from a democratic presidency. Heck the last one threw folks off welfare without even attempting to fund job training for the poor wretches.......
