Egypt's richest man says 'stop meddling' with globalization
Egypt's richest man says 'stop meddling' with globalization
May 23, 2006

SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt -- Egyptian tycoon Naguib Sawiris on Monday urged governments worldwide to stop interfering with free trade and leave globalization to businesses.

"Governments should take their hands off markets, they should not meddle in these issues," the chairman of telecom giant Orascom said as the World Economic Forum for the Middle East wound up.

Speaking on the last day of the meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt's richest man said that Western countries were setting a bad example by allowing "nationalistic" feelings to rule the market.

..snip..

Egypt, which launched a major privatization program two years ago, is expected to sell $2.6 billion in public assets this year.

A meeting in Cairo of anti-globalization activists protesting against the "regional Davos" being held in Sharm El Sheikh attracted only around 40 people over the weekend.

2. Global fascism - the BFEE's goal - and the dumbass GOP is just a jumping
point for them. Congratulations Republicans - you helped screw the whole world. You'll be buying "freedom" from your corporate master.

3. Why doesn't he whine & cry "We want jobs too? We're cheap too! Waaaah!"
He'd be more honest and upfront...

Governments need to ensure their own country remains viable, rather than allowing the blatant selling out to others and America's really put itself in the kettle this time...

And, one day, that twit will realize the game works both ways - when his apparent buddies vamoose for the latest cheap sand pit, he'll be complaining like the rest of us are now. Funny how many countries drooling over the upcoming workload can't see they're being treated like dirty prostitutes too.

Sorry, but one country's infrastructure needs to be maintained. Help afterwards all you want, but no politician who has voted for offshoring has a damn right to whine about the decline in higher education. Not one frigging SYLLABLE.

Or what do America's politicians know that we don't?

Egypt sold $2.6 billion in public assets this year. Surely Bushco has
beat that number, with several more up on the auction block, including public park lands.
