56-year-old grandma activated for Iraq duty.
57-year-old President checks to make sure he's still in the clear.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- At a time when most people are looking forward to retirement, Connie Greenwood is preparing for combat. The 56-year-old Greenwood looks less a soldier and more like somebody's grandmother. And she is.

But she also holds the rank of First Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves as member of the 308th Transportation Company in Lincoln. Greenwood has been called to active duty for the first time in her 26 years as a reservist.

I wonder if Doug Feith or Wolfowitz could take her place?

1. How about Cheney? He had "other things to do" in the 60s
He's not busy now.

Dubya is the "decision-maker." He told us himself.

2. are most 56 year olds looking forward to retirement?
not in this damn economy. As for Ms. Greenwood, hello, she IS a reservist and should always know she could be called - ANY TIME.

6. She's quite willing to go.
The two points of interest to me are the smaller one, the contrast between her and a president who couldn't even complete his National Guard stint, and the larger one, what this says about the strain Iraq is placing upon our military.

5. Amerika sends 56-year old grandmothers to war?
is this a cruel joke on what we consider a civil society when mothers of mothers fight wars and able bodied young men and women can not be found to do these things?

are the cub scouts next?

what value system allows this to be reality?

10. What's the big deal?
She signed up. Nobody forced her to sign the contract.

11. The big deal
is not that she's going—she's apparently perfectly willing to do so—but that our military is stretched so thin that we're sending 56-year-old women and adolescent crackheads to a war zone.

8. Especially for his enthusiasm for expanding the war into Iran and Syria
No war too big for heroes like Bolton.

Might do him some good to experience first hand the impact of small arms proliferation.
