Enough is enough. Why parental groups need to back the hell off
Am I the only person who is tired of seeing mothers dramatically protesting the "indecency" of television the internet and video games?

They are always out there lurking around just waiting for something like the Grand Theft Auto hot coffee mod, or some porn site to go to far, or Janet Jacksons breast to pop back out. Now I am not condoning any of these things, but what the hell ever happened to parental responsibility in this country?

For all of the above things there have been parental groups who try to ban or heavily restrict the whole topic for the rest of us. When for all of the above things PARENTS CAN TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. Don't want your kids to watch a certain show? Block it, almost all TV sets come with that capability. Don't want your child going to a bad website? Block it, its even easier than with the TV. Don't want your child to play a certain video game? THEN FOR GODS SAKE DON'T BUY IT.

We have all seen or heard of the commercial where the kids get high and see a gun lying around, then one shoots the other. Only, only, only in this country is it the guns fault, or the pots fault, or the crappy babysitter, and I always think where the hell was the parent? At work out of town? Then hide the gun and lock it up, and if your kids smoking something in your hose and you don't know, then if your kid isn't a freakin super genius or Bush's next press secretary your a bad parent, or stupid, or both.

This is one of the few groups of people that are trying to legislate their taste. They want to make their opinions law no matter how much it entrenches on the first amendment. They want someone to take the initiative for them and I, for one, am sick as hell of it. Leave porn tv and video games alone and learn to be good parents instead of taking the easy way out.

2. My wife got a call from one last night...
The women asked her, 'We are calling to see if you agree with the decrease of family programs on television these days.'

My wife said, 'Well, since we don't have children I really don't have an opinion about it'. My wife was hoping that this would get her off the phone.

Then this "women" said, 'You don't have to have children to care about them'. She went on to say, 'We want to get your opinion about why Hollywood keeps turning down "family" movies'.

My wife responded by saying, 'Most of the movies that are out right now are meant for families and children so I would disagree...'

At that point the women interrupted and started to argue with my wife.

My wife hung up on her.

one gay cowboy movie and they are up in arms

BTW after seeing Brokeback (good movie) I got to thinking, I bet a lot of cowboys were gay actually. Think about it going up there all alone with only men for months at a time...

come on we've seen what happens in prison why not here? and quite frankly anyone who is offended by two people in love have absolutely no tolerance

7. Has this woman been to the video store lately?
Unlikely. The whole place is full of family movies- including lot of really bad ones.

sex content really do negatively affect young teens..especially boys.. if they are violent or sadistic or have abnormal behaviour.

So if you had that information.. like with transfats.. wouldn't you try to do something to make sure kids are healthy?

The opposite is true of gay groups for teens.. gay is healthy..since identity is healthy. And suppressing young gay people is very un-healthy. And a human rights abuse. And a dangerous one. So you would fight to keep attacks on gays and lesbians kids in schools to a minimum.. with clubs and such.

10. The cable company in Rochester was single-handedly
responsible for my wife's decision to ban cable in our household. We only had basic--the apt. complex provided it free.

The kid was only a few months old, and her mindset had altered to "what is best for the kid?" The power had cut out one Saturday morning, and the VCR needed to have its channel roster repopulated. So I told it to do so automatically.

That evening I was flipping channels and ran into an orgy. No, seriously, an orgy. There were half a dozen naked men and women on a large mat, with various lotions and toys, and they were engaging in some serious back- and belly-slapping. They were well miked, too. The director was switching between multiple cameras, close ups included.

It was HBO. The VCR usually didn't detect it, since it wasn't usually there, and so most free HBO weekends we didn't even know about.

They were having a "free HBO weekend". Sex in America or some such title.

Didn't ask for it. Didn't expect to see it. Couldn't have excluded it. If our kid had been older, it would have led to very interesting discussions. "Daddy, why don't we have orgies? Why can't I have orgies? What was that man doing with his penis in that woman's mouth? Do all those men and women really love each other?"
