Safire’s’ “Mistakes Were Made” in today’s’ NYT.
This twit must be using the same shit as Rush.

My email to Mr. Satire

Mr. Safire,
Pretty slick premise, everyone is wrong but the President, no accountability. Are you his full-time apologist are do you perform your functions for him gratis?

1. What an amazingly vapid piece
Not one "Bush" nor a direct reference to "The President" in the entire spiel. The buck stops somewhere else. What a whore.

2. Read this too - laughable, if not so disgusting
Safire is firmly in the "Amen Corner" for Bush. Wasted five minutes of my life reading such drivel.

3. Safire needs to retire
His brain done fell out his ear, and it rolled down the heating register. I read the column twice, and still couldn't figure out what he was talking about. In one paragraph he says that everyone who said that the illegal invasion would make the region more unstable, and that thousands of civilians would be hurt and killed were terribly wrong. A couple of paragraphs later, he remarks that it's "unfortunate" that thousands of civilians have been hurt and killed, and that the region is less stable.

But every "mistake" on his side of the ledger is "unfortunate" or a mistake "for now," while everyone else's mistakes are egregious lapses, resulting in irreparable harm to something or other.

And this idiot gets paid for this spew?

4. 'Advancing freedom is never a mistake'
Falling for that 'freedom' line often is, however.

6. He has a problem with democracy ?

1) Freedom-speak? Isn't that French
2) AFAIK there were heavy civilian casualties. Nobody bothered to count them, but...
3) Can't argue there (Perle started)
4) "unfortunate" I'd think of stronger words. And all the terrorists are baathist? strange. The offer to train the police in Europe(aactually in the Emirates) is still standing BTW.
5) Schröder was elected because of his opposition to the war. So why does Safire have a problem with a politician fulfilling one of his main campaign promises? With voters expressing their will?
6) Buahaha- nice try. As if any such evidence wouldn't have been used prior to the war.
7) Ok - I'll give him that one
8) Now he lost me. Why is it better to leave armed men hungry than to appease them? To leave them armed (hidden weapon depots ) AND hungry was a stupid thing to do.
9) Time will tell (why is he defending Bremer ? OK, when Bremer arrived most errors were already made, but still...)
10) Who'd say such a thing?
