Julian Borger (Guardian Utd): Leftwing candidate reclaims the flag
From the Guardian Unlimited (UK)
Dated Saturday November 22

Leftwing candidate reclaims the flag
By Julian Borger in Salem, New Hampshire

As Howard Dean's presidential campaign has gained momentum and confidence, the flag hanging behind the former Vermont governor has grown steadily larger.
By now it has reached epic dimensions, filling the stage backdrop behind him.
Mr Dean paces in front of it like a general, urging his supporters to "take back America" from rightwing Republicans, who he says have hijacked the very notion of patriotism.
The call to action draws the big cheer of the evening.

While some may rightly bristle at calling Dean "leftwing", this view from across the Pond is correct about a number of points. For example, who could deny that Dean's campaign is a revolt against the timid strategy of the Congressional Democrats?
