jonathan alter's repulsive JFK "memory" in newsweek
"New movies like “The Fog of War,” a brilliant documentary about Robert S. McNamara, help explain to a new generation that JFK was more than just a handsome guy who liked sex and got murdered."

1. Thanks to 40 years of Rightwing media
yes-that is exactly how Gen-Xers and younger look at JFK. The Right controls all three branches of government and also the national debate. They won the war without firing a shot.

3. JFK and the Kennedy family are remarkable!
The Kennedys are not perfect, but as a family they are responsible for so much good....They have endured unimaginable sorrow and pain and yet they carry on with energy and humour...How can you not admire them?

4. When the Right Wing Media tears the Kennedys to pieces...
All the Media Whores say about JFK is how he was banging Marilyn Monroe and smoking pot with Judith Exner.

Oh, don't foget about all those RX he took and Rush swears JFK lied about his Addison's disease

5. Don't blame Alter
I think he's right; that IS how young people today remember JFK, like it or not.

Disclaimer: I am older than Alter and remember JFK and his times with admiration and nostalgia. But that's me.

6. Welll, I heard a bit of a Scott Simon (NPR) interview with teens...
who basically remembered that he'd been assasinated, was young and good looking, and had a relationship with Marilyn Monroe. They could not answer (or scarcely answer) which political party he was in... So, Alter may have a point.... 60% OF Americans weren't even born when he was assasinated. And, I imagine they aren't learning much in school, from all appearances (except maybe about Saint Reagan)...
