Liberals and Israel

By Howard Kurtz

Usually, bloggers get hammered for what they say. These days, liberal bloggers are being denounced for what they aren't saying.

As I've noted before, most of the lefty blogs are avoiding the Middle East war. Some of those puzzled by the relative silence have suggested that these bloggers don't want to wade into this particular crossfire. Some of the bloggers have noted that they have no particular expertise on the subject.

2. As far as I'm concerned
The less we talk about this issue in the run-up to any election the better. The pure malice and venom, the intolerance and accusations flying around the GD forum now that I/P has been allowed to be discussed there is disheartening to say the least. The whole purpose of places like DU is not only to come together to discuss to issues of the day in a non-zombified manner, but also to build the kind of organization and solidarity needed to topple the Republican empire. Lately, this place is tearing itself apart over what's happening in a few relatively small countries in a remote region of the world.
There isn't this kind of vitriol when it comes to Sudan, or the Congo, or what's happening in central Asia or the human rights abuses of China... there's most definately something "special" about the Israel/Arab conflict. And right now I wish it would just go away...
