Gen. Franks Doubts Constitution Will Survive WMD Attack
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2003/11/20/185048.shtml

Gen. Tommy Franks says that if the United States is hit with a weapon of mass destruction that inflicts large casualties, the Constitution will likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government.

1. In other words, he predicts the terrorists win!

Franks doesn't sound like he's particularly against the idea of a military dictatorship.

Actually, I wonder if the Constitution can survive another Bush administration!

And he's making geopolitical commentary in "Cigar Aficionado"!?!

2. obviously
i could have told you that, and I've never been in the military. It's evident the military is relishing its role as national hero in a time of crisis, and the military industrial complex knows no ends to its desire for increasing power.

4. what's his angle?
Edited on Mon Nov-24-03 05:27 PM by enki23
is he trying to scare us into giving more power to the militant conservative wing of government by scaring us with a scenario in which we're bombed so bad that we will have to give power to the militant conservative wing of government?

vote for my friends, vote republican. only we can stop you from being bombed. if that doesn't scare you, remember that if you *are* bombed, my friends and i (mostly republican) will probably seize power in a military junta. vote for my friends, vote republican.

5. Its true
I work in the military industrial complex out here in California, and I know they already have contingency plans for the takeover. Why do you think we put in Arnold? But hey, don't worry: I've seen the uniforms we will all have to wear, and they're really cool! Plus, all the chicks have to dress like Britney!

7. getting people used to the idea by floating trial balloons?
roll the meme out....

slowly shift the meme away from 'after a WMD attack'... into 'under threat of a WMD attack'....

wouldn't worry much, unless we start hearing this particular line repeated by more rwingers. Then we need to start worrying - challenge it before they shift the language to "threat of..."
