Those principles are applicable to all progressive issues, not just GLBT ones.

Of course the polls show gay marriage as a losing issue. Basic civil rights are *always* a losing issue. Until they are understood as basic civil rights, that is...

That Dean and Clark haven't started doing their homework on gay marriage is disheartening. They're letting others set the terms of the debate--and in this case, it's people whose agenda is easily shown as the oppressive, unjustifiable argument that it is, based entirely on fear-mongering and appeals to religious bias.

Anita Bryant's "Save Our Children" campaign of 1977 was the beginning of the extreme religious right. They lost then, and they've been losing ever since. There's no reason to fear them now. But there's plenty of reason to fight them, whether you're gay or straight. And plenty of ammunition.

I just started a thread in the lounge about this: I left out one very important thing from that opening paragraph...which is that the thing I am really MOST thankful for is that we're getting married!

I omitted it because she had told me she didn't want me talking about it online but then she read the column and said I could tell people here. So I am! Woohoo!

I really liked rule #6...that was too funny...reading and nodding..reading and nodding..then up pops rule #6, had me chuckling out loud!!

Plaid Adder is one the the more billiant people on DU..and that is saying alot, I am always amazed at the quality and dedication of most DUers! :bounce:
