Paul Reynolds (BBC): Into Iraq by stealth
From the BBC Online
Dated Thursday November 27

Analysis: Into Iraq by stealth
By Paul Reynolds
BBC News Online world affairs correspondent

President Bush's visit to Iraq was a morale-booster for troops far from home on the most important family day of the year for Americans.
But the need for secrecy also emphasised the difficulties of the US-led occupation of Iraq.
It was notable, too, that Mr Bush chose the "war on terror" as a major theme of his visit, linking Iraq to that worldwide war.
He is already making it the highlight of his gathering campaign to win next November's presidential election.

No matter how Mr. Bush or his handlers try to spin it, the invasion of Iraq was predicated on a pack of lies. It had nothing to do with fighting terrorism.

He should be made to hang his head in shame each and every time he shamelessly exploits the troops to use as a backdrop for a photo op for his 2004 campaign (occasionly mislabled a "re-election" campaign).

1. The cavalier attitude of this act
surely rises to the level of a Misdemeanor.
For the CinC to pop up in a hot combat zone without warning is negligent to the citizens of the United States, who deserve better stewardship than for their pResident to endanger the chain of command in time of war.

This is cause for impeachment and requires an immediate Psych Eval to determine if he is indeed mentally incapacitated.

3. It Was a very Clever Move
But I've Noticed:

Whenever this man makes a clever move, he is undone by the real world. It is the truly stupid things that he gets away with. So, wait and see.

It was rather depressing, when you think about it, the most powerful man in the world skulking into an airport for a couple of hours, to make it look like he gives a damn about the American youth he uses as target practice for terrorists. It may be too much for Joe Sixpack to swallow.

4. He is not a powerful man per se.
The only power is the power behind the throne; an evil power composed of decaying criminal conspirators who live in the shadows and greedy grasping bloated capitalists. He is the brainless scion of greed and corruption.

6. Why?
You ask, "Why cut down a man who spends a holiday with his troops?"

Because it was a stunt, as evidenced by the fact that Bush spent a grand total of 2.5 hours on the ground and did not even eat with the troops, nor venture beyond the heavily guarded airport.

You ask, "Is it any better that Hillary is over there?"

You might want to think about that a little. After all, if she had not gone over there, would Bush have gone?

You ask, "The man is bringing morale to the troops. What is wrong with that?"

It was appropriate for the president to show up in Iraq on Thanksgiving. Not a moment too soon -- I remember very clearly his "visit" some months ago, where the Presidential airplane tilted its wing a bit so he could look down on Iraq from 30,000 feet up. Very smart move on the part of his handlers to finally get him on the ground in Iraq: after all, it was only a matter of time before some Democrat running for President would have brought up that previous "visit" and compared it with Hillary's...
