Jonah Goldberg on Gay Marriage

For those who don't know Jonah Goldberg is a neo conservative and editor of the National Review Online. Usually he's pretty terrible, particularly in his unflinching support for attacking the middle east. But his recent articles on Gay Marriage have been a bit more sensible. Last week he suggested Civil Unions were the way to go, as they seemed a good compromise (although of course he also took a potshot at Dean). http://www.townhall.com/columnists/jonahgoldberg/jg20031121.shtml

This week he wrote in opposition to the Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA), saying that federalism implies allowing local communities to make their own mistakes (he does oppose Gay Marriage).

I do wonder whether his scheme wouldn't end up being a defacto prohibition of Gay Marriage, as many communities or states wouldn't go for it, and he does support language allowing various states to not recognize marriages in other states.

1. There seems to be a lot of this going around!

David Brooks, another right-winger, came out completely in favor of gay marriage.

I've got a feeling we might have some people jump Republican ship if they keep to the Falwell etc. line on this issue!
