"The Love Him, Hate Him President" (CNN)
The Love Him, Hate Him President: Americans adore Bush or loathe him — how we became a nation divided
By John F. Dickerson and Karen Tumulty
Posted Sunday, November 23, 2003

"There is an axiom in American politics that says whenever a sitting President is running for a second term, the election is more a referendum on him than a judgment on his opponent. President George W. Bush has taken this truism to a new level. With just under a year to go before Nov. 2, 2004, Americans are already finding ways to show how passionately they feel about their President. In August, KB Toys rolled out its George W. Bush Elite Force Aviator doll, a 12-in. action figure in full naval flight gear. At $39.99, it has set the sales record for collectible action figures on KB's website. There's also brisk traffic on the Web for donations in memory of Sally Baron, 71, of northern Wisconsin, and Gertrude M. Jones, 81, of Mandeville, La. Obituaries for both women contained requests that money be sent to any organization working for the removal of Bush from office. And in Jefferson County, Colo., West Jefferson Middle School teacher Martha Swisher sparked a furor by wearing a HE'S NOT MY PRESIDENT button on her coat during a sixth-grade field trip. Republicans in Colorado's state legislature honored the family that lodged the complaint; the teacher now wears a lapel pin to class that features an American flag and a peace sign."

1. Count me as a "Hate him."
I can't even begin to tell you how much I despise this man and what he has done to our nation. If he gets a second term, it might be the last presidential election we will see. And we may have seen the last free presidential election anyway, and that was in 1996.

2. Oops - I guess that's TIME magazine.
I hope something extraordinarly dreadful - and closely related to Bush's war against everything - happens to Bush's supporters to wake them up. Lost jobs, lost life savings, lung cancer due to air pollution - you know, the kind of things we're all facing, thanks largely to their stupidity.

4. I was chatting with someone last night
who claimed to know a colonel stationed at a base some distance away from me. This person said the colonel was telling him that things were much more serious than anyone realizes, and he wasn't talking about overseas; he was talking about right here.

Claimed he was hearing that it's possible there could be a multi-front attack on the US... nuclear, biological, etc., knocking out power grids and such. The guy I was chatting with has heard of PNAC and the neocons, but isn't a DU member.

I wonder if any of it is true? That low, sick feeling in the pit of my stomach may indeed be accurate after all....

5. What OBL knew.
Was that the US was not United, but horribly divided. Giving the PNAC the upper hand temporarily wins his long term goal of getting the west out of Saudi Arabia.

Why? Because he knew that America did not have the unity needed to fight a long war of occupation for the unstated goals of the * administration.

We will withdraw from the middle east in order to bring enough troops home to keep California, the upper Midwest, and most of New England in the 'Union'.

Where Jefferson Davis failed, Bush will succeed. Ironic from a uniter, not a divider, eh?

3. Did You See David Broder's latest Column?
He basically said that the last time we had a nation so divided, we had a Civil War.

That is our final option. The Second Amendment is the only one left standing. But this would be a Class War, not between states, but between economic states. And it would be unfortunate. Let's see if we can have a free and fair election, shall we?
