WASHINGTON -- First came the pre-emptive military policy. Now comes the pre-emptive campaign strategy.

Before the president even knows his opponent, his first political ad is blanketing Iowa on Sunday.

"It would take one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known," Bush says, in a State of the Union clip.

Instead of a shining city, we have a dark bunker.

But the only thing we really have to fear is fearmongering itself.

1. NPR reported on this

and on the fact that this was NOT what Bush said. He bobbled the word "vial", making it "while". Dean's people contended that the committee that made the ad got Bush to say the lines again, in violation of campaign finance laws. But the GOPers said, "No, we editorially enhanced it"-that is they changed the"w" to a "v". NPR went on to show how it was done by changing "while" to "pile" and "tile". They concluded the story by saying they would continue to run quotes as they were said, and not enhance them. It was hilarious.
