Beazley backs Iraq withdrawal call
LABOR leader Kim Beazley says the British Army chief's call for allied troops to be withdrawn from Iraq is "a victory for commonsense".

(snip)
Mr Beazley said the best way for Australia to help Iraq was to provide political support and aid.

"His (General Dannatt's) analysis of the situation in Iraq ... is the same as we (Labor) have been putting before the Australian people for a very lengthy period of time," Mr Beazley said.

"Everybody knows now this is the wrong war, everybody now knows the persistence of the presence of allied forces in Iraq is exacerbating the problem of terrorism in that country, not curing it."
