Gazette Opinion: Tester would bring welcome change in U.S. Senate
Gazette Opinion: Tester would bring welcome change in U.S. Senate

In the hotly contested U.S. Senate race, Jon Tester is the best choice. Here's why:

In January 2004, as a leader of Montana Democrats, state Sen. Jon Tester held a press conference at which he advocated increased worker training, responsible development of natural resources, expanded employee health care and better funding for education. The 2005 Legislature in which Tester served as Senate president made progress toward those goals:

• The colleges of technology received more building and equipment money than ever before.

• The Children's Health Insurance Program was expanded.

• A prescription discount program was set up.

• Programs were established to make employee insurance costs affordable for small businesses and their workers.

• K-12 education got a bigger funding boost than it had in a decade.

1. I gotta say, I like the haircut! It reminds me of the old days!!!!
He's got an incredibly CHEERFUL face, too. Now, these things are superficial, but superficial aspects can put one over the top in a close race. I also think the commercials he's run are fantastic--they strike just the right note.

2. Roger that...
Tester seems like a really down-home, friendly sort of guy overall--plus he's about 6 inches taller than Burns! Saw some tape of their debate on TDS last night, and Burns came off as a grouchy, slightly crazy old fart by comparison. I think Tester's going to be a great addition to the Dem senatorial lineup--the kind of Democrat who's never had a latte in his life. :toast:

3. I saw that same bit--Burns did look like a geriatric in need of meds!
And Tester has run a very postive campaign, it resonates even with those who have never been to Montana in their life!!!!

4. That was his secret plan, right?
The entire exchange can be found here:

The best part of this is the audience laughing hysterically. At Burns.

About the latte.... there's a dirty little secret Montanans don't want people to know: designer coffee is almost as common in Montana as it is in Seattle. Almost. Jon (and Conrad) have almost certainly had lattes.
