American Military Lawyer: Government 'sanctions Hicks' show trial'
THE Government had allowed Australian terror suspect David Hicks to remain in detention to allow the US a "show trial", his American military lawyer said today.

Maj Mori said the US Government, which no longer sent people to Guantanamo, was now looking for an exit strategy and Hicks was caught up in a political game.

"They need some show trials and, for whatever reason, the Australian Government is allowing David to be one of the guinea pigs," he said on ABC radio.

"The guy to his left and the guy to his right were going home and the US Government is making more serious allegations against them - that is when it really hit home that this was political and it's not a fair system," Maj Mori said.
