Bush cites OIL as reason to stay in Iraq (Marketplace/APM)
(I don't know if this topic was posted in another thread (I searched and didn't find one), but this is a MAJOR story that it seems is being buried by most of the American media. Marketplace reported this tonight.)

Bush cites oil as reason to stay in Iraq

KAI RYSSDAL: As you've probably heard President Bush has been out on the campaign trail. He's been giving his standard stump speech. But over the weekend in Colorado the president said something a little unusual. He was talking about why U.S. troops are still in Iraq. What the terrorists might do if the Americans pulled out.

PRESIDENT BUSH: You can imagine a world in which these extremists and radicals got control of energy resources. And then you can imagine them saying, "We're gonna pull a bunch of oil off the market to run your price of oil up, unless you do the following."

KAI RYSSDAL: Blackmail and worse were the scenarios that followed. But the link he made was pretty clear. If we leave Iraq, the terrorists get the oil. That's a pretty big change for a White House that has meticulously avoided any link between oil and the war. Our Washington bureau chief John Dimsdale reports the presidential comments are getting some attention.

JOHN DIMSDALE: Phillip Verleger is a studious observer of global oil markets for the Institute for International Economics. He's not prone to hyperbole. But he says he was stunned when he heard the President talk about a U.S. role in protecting Iraq's oil reserves from terrorists....

6. And if we go to war in Iran most oil will go off line
Did I read that Iraq is bring in oil from other countries? Funny how even under Saddam Iraq had a better society than we gave it. One would almost think they had built their own bridges, schools and other buildings.

2. This is a crack in the dyke, and I'm not talking about Lynn Cheney
He's flying a bit too close to honesty with that comment, and it's surprising that after all that's happened he would choose now to say the obvious, it's all about OIL and it's always been about OIL.

3. so let's run the logic out on this... if we don't stay the course, they get the
oil. but if we never invaded, they would have gotten the oil anyway, because Saddam was in cahoots with the terrorists.

so we went there to protect the oil from the terrorists.

right?

4. If we leave, China gets the oil, not the terrorists. They had it before we invaded. nt

7. Boy Bush is REALLY desparate if he starts telling the truth.
Just how does this benefit him and the Repubs?
Rove must have some reason up his sleeve.

11. He said this on Rush Limbaugh last week, too. That's the second time
he's told the truth, and notice how he didn't bungle a single word.

When he finally admits what this occupation is for: Stablilization of the oil market, he stops screwing up the english language.

There's a link to Rush's site, but you have to join, and I don't want to contaminate my hard drive. It was november 2nd.
