Howard Dean
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 11:10 AM by underpants
They, the powers that be, tried to tell you that you couldn't take on the whole country.
They told you it was too expensive.
They told you it was a fool's purchase.
They told you to stick with their plan.
They told you you needed to pick your spots.
They told you to spend money just they always had.
They told you to just do what had always been done.

You didn't listen to them. No matter how today turns out you have a Democratic office in every state in almost every county or Congressional district. Bush is chasing down votes in Nebraska and Kansas for crying outloud and hiding out in Montana to do telecasts.

You were the first person most people heard say "This war is wrong" from there it was okay to come out in the light and say what we all know now (and then).

You stuck to your guns and now everyone is listening.

I thank you.

1. I love howard
Even if he's not liberal enough for me (VBEG)

He got a hugely raw deal from the press in 2004.

I voted for Kerry, but Howard was my man.

I want Gore to run this time. BUt I'll vote for the dem that the rest of my party memebers collectively decide to give the nomination to.

15. It's all about the GOTV
The 50-State campaign is brilliant because it stopped the outsourcing of Democratic GOTV. You can't win people over with an army of underpaid and exploited people. This is what is killing progressive politics according to Dana Fisher (Activism, Inc: How the Outsourcing of Grassroots Campaigns Is Strangling Progressive Politics in America). Democratic activists need to be visible even between campaigns.

Dean gets it; when will the rest of the party leadership?

28. And he never got his 3-piece suit he laughed about.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/555

"When a backer bellowed the updated Harry Truman slogan that became a mantra for Dean's presidential campaign--"Give 'em hell, Howard!"--a wicked grin rippled across Dean's face. "I'm trying to be restrained in my new role," he chirped. "I may be looking for a three-piece suit." Then he burst into laughter and exclaimed, "Fat chance!"

Just before he became chairman...a moving event.

You summed it up perfectly. Howard and the honchos at the DNC are bringing back the small "d" in democrat by making the Democratic party the people's party.

Thank you, Howard, for making me love being a Democrat all over again.

Let me also add my tremendous - if slightly grudging - respect and huge thanks to Rahm Emanuel and the DCCC for fielding and funding a stellar group of candidates to run in national races this year. Without his tireless energy and political gifts the job would only have been half done.

Now it's time to stop bickering boys...2008's a comin'!

47. Where would we be without people like him
VERY well put!

Howard Dean is easily well-heeled enough to go off and enjoy his life in quiet contentment, but his country means more to him than his own well-being. He cares more about the ideals of this nation than he does his own pocketbook. While we were ranting about the white men earlier (with Allen's near-victory), I think we should give a bigger round of applause to the "rich white men" who truly get it -- men like Dean.

52. Bless you Howard!
You had rough going in 2004, and you could have gone home to piss and moan, but you didn't.
You stuck to your guns, continued believing in all of us. You never gave up on this party, or the people who make it great.
You pushed us all to work together, to have candidates who were clearly ahead to help those who needed help,
to make sure every candidate had a fair shot at winning, and never for one second quit beleiving we could DO IT.
Guess what Howard?
We did it.
All the hard work has paid off.
Tonight I look at my country with new eyes.
They're filled with tears.
Because of your hard work and dedication, tonight I realized how much love for this country I still have, when I'd thought that love dead and gone.
I owe that to you.
Thank you.

69. Thank you, Howard
for your vision

for all your hard work

and, most of all, for fighting for what you believe!

I loved you before -- I love you doubly now.

70. Thank You Dean
It was great when he came out and stood his ground. Mainly he has not bowed down. Yes, he did stand his ground on issues of corruption and the Iraq War. He may have been the guy who made it okay to say the war in Iraq was not going well.

Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 09:49 AM by oc2002
Congrats Dean. I was a big supporter when he ran for President and saw him destroyed by insiders.

This is Dean's victory over the insider, power mongers like the DLC, and their people.

76. I spent 4 hours in line to vote and
I wouldn't change a thing. It was great to see the good doctor's ideas at work. I've never seen so many young voters (under 25). Thank you Governor Dean for putting my faith back into our system!

80. Not in Georgia...
...Try as he might, Howard's efforts in Georgia fell on deaf ears in the form of one Bobby Kahn, the 'head' of the demos here. Kahn, and his high-handed, arm-twisting, arrogance, were instrumental in the defeat of Roy Barnes, the former Demo Governor (Kahn was his enforcer), and now that same attitude and his refusal to listen to anything that Howard Dean and his people were trying to do, has cost Georgia once again. Hey, Democrats in Georgia. Get rid of Bobby Kahn's sorry ass if you ever expect to win statewide elections again. Even though the State Legislature may have converted to Democratic, the Guv, the Lt. Guv (for the first time ever), are both Repigs...both US Senators and a majority of Congressmen are all repigs...hell, while the rest of the country was waking up to the reality of the deceit, lies and failures of bushco, Georgia sent more repigs to Congress - God, what a bunch of redneck, pecker-woods. I saw a 'blog' about why Georgia was 'bucking this trend'. One guy said, 'Georgia is simply not 'trendy', we don't follow the crowd.' - to that I say, 'oh yeah, is that what we were doing by continuing to practice segregation? The crowd we didn't follow then must have been the rest of the country outside Dixie, cause we certianly fell in line with our classy neighbors of SC, AL, MS, et. al.

I can't decide if I want the new Democratic-controlled Congress to punish states like Georgia for our continued mindless support for these criminals, or get serious about getting some leadership in the party here that will get with the program - or both.

90. I misspoke...
...Georgia's legislature 'did not' return to the Democrats...don't know what I was reading, but it - House and Senate, remain decidedly Republican. If you think about it, Georgia, along with her Southern neighbors, have with this election managed to officially turn the clock back fifty years. Once again the 'Solid South' has retired the trophy for backward, racist, mindless, selfish bigotry...and apparently is proud of it.

Patrick also ignoted the "experts" and stuck to his walues and his committment to the voters and won by a landslide!
Listen up! People can hear the truth and can also discern a bald faced lier. Here is to integrity and deriving ones power from the governed. It is a quaint idea, but it still works best!
