The union representing National Basketball Association players is calling “foul” on the league commissioner’s crackdown on technical fouls. Jesse Russell reports:
National Basketball Players Association Executive Director Billy Hunter is threatening to file unfair labor practice action against the NBA. The reason, what he says is an increase in technical fouls against players as part of a crackdown on player’s complaints when referee calls don’t go their way. Players are fined $500 for the first offense, and an additional $500 for the second. That fine can also vary depending on the severity of the foul. Players can be fined up to $35,000 and be suspended one game without pay. Players have been fined for everything from talking back to refs to throwing up their hands in mock disbelief. 122 technical fouls have been issued in 51 games this year in comparison to 66 in the first 50 games last season.
Editors note. This is labor, not sports news. You did hear it on DU first too!
