Rep. Putnam (R-FL): Where Were The Rednecks?
Putnam Wants To Know: Where Were The Rednecks?

“White rednecks” who “didn’t show up to vote for us” partly cost GOPers their cong. majorities, Rep. Adam Putnam (R-FL) told fellow Republicans today. And Putnam, seeking the post of GOP conference chair, chided ex-Chair J.C. Watts (R-OK) for ruining the conference’s ability to serve its members.

Three Republicans in the room independently confirmed to the Hotline the substance and context of Putnam’s remarks. But Putnam’s chief of staff insists that the remarks were taken out of context.

Examining the 2006 midterms, Putnam blamed the GOP defeat on “the independent vote, the women vote, the suburban vote.” He said that “heck, even the white rednecks who go to church on Sunday didn't come out to vote for us.”

1. You say that like it's a bad thing.
No. 1, rednecks have no problem with being called rednecks; and No. 2, they're not stooopid. They know that Bush's policies are negatively impacting on them, and they know that he's incompetent. They're embarrassed of him.

2. The local paper is just so proud of him. They don't mention the redneck stuff.
They know about it, as they got plenty of emails about it. Just chose to ignore it. They love Opie so much. I wish people from all over would write the editors of this paper from the contact page. They do this all the time, they think he is so wonderful. Local boy makes good and all that stuff.

Bartow's Putnam Ascends Republican Ranks
He becomes highest-ranking House leader ever to hail from Florida.

By Cory Reiss
Ledger Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON - "House Republicans elevated Rep. Adam Putnam on Friday to the third-ranking post of their leadership team, assuring the quick climber from Bartow a prominent profile in the GOP's quest to regain the majority in 2008.

As chairman of the House Republican Conference, Putnam became the highest-ranking member of House leadership ever elected by either party to hail from Florida. The 32-year-old father of four joins Sen. Mel Martinez, whom President Bush this week tapped as general chairman of the Republican National Committee, at the top of the GOP structure.

"Today," Putnam said, "is the beginning of our march back to regain the trust and faith of the American people."

4. Doubt it ... isn't the main point that young Repukes are too busy doing
intelligent stuff at college to enlist in the armed services? That would mean that there are no rednecks there ... since "rednecks" tend to vote GOP - according to this guy ...
