Saddam trial 'flawed and unsound'

The trial of Saddam Hussein was so flawed that its verdict is unsound, the advocacy group Human Rights Watch says.

HRW said it had documented "serious administrative, procedural and substantive legal defects" that meant he did not get a fair trial.

The Iraqi government has dismissed the report, telling the BBC that the trial was both "just and fair".

Saddam Hussein has two more weeks to lodge an appeal against the verdict - but his lawyer claims he has been blocked from doing so.

3. And no mention here of how sentencing was staged
to benefit the Republicans and Bush just before the election. The not-so hidden hand of the US has been at work throughout this charade.
