"Americans Can't Handle Another Impeachment" Is Republican Propaganda. Don't Be Deceived.

By Linda Milazzo

"Americans can't handle another impeachment." So say the supporters of George W. Bush in their anti-impeachment propaganda.

The truth is Americans CAN handle another impeachment. They CAN handle the truth. In fact, if Americans don't bring Bush and Cheney to justice after the atrocities they've committed, this nation will never reclaim its moral authority. And the people of this nation will be despised for unleashing these dangerous men on the world.

"Americans can't handle another impeachment" isn't a truth. It's a device. Like 'weapons of mass destruction.' 'A mushroom cloud.' 'Gassed his own people.' 'Sought significant quantities of uranium from A-f-r-i-c-a.' These are the sound bytes, the parroted propaganda, which brought us to war. Each is a proven lie, told time and again by well-rehearsed pundits. Verbatim delivery. Robotic form. Repeated ad nauseam by grown-up children of the damned. It sounded good for Nicholson in "A Few Good Men," but rings pretty hollow here. Americans CAN handle and probe for the truth.

.....

If America and Americans are to be resurrected in the eyes of the world, proper investigation of the Bush administration is a Democratic mandate. If, as I believe, incontrovertible evidence of Bush and Cheney's high crimes and misdemeanors is uncovered, impeachment proceedings should go forth. Already, prior to any Congressional investigations taking place, volumes have been written delineating the impeachable crimes of Bush and Cheney. High level symposiums have been held. Dozens of Constitutional scholars have spoken, all convinced of their guilt... impeaching George W. Bush will be constructive for America and Americans. It will be educational. Americans will watch the proceedings and learn about the Constitution. They'll receive a long overdo lesson on the Constitutional responsibilities of their President, the balance of powers, and gain a clearer understanding of their own rights and freedoms. Americans will acquire an insight into proper governance to make them better stewards of their democracy.

Americans needn't worry that Impeachment proceedings and investigative hearings will detract from Congress' time to attend to its legislative responsibilities. I have the utmost confidence in the organizational skills of Speaker Pelosi. I'm certain she will institute a process which permits Congress to fulfill its legislative duties while addressing the Executive's dereliction of duty. Unlike prior Speaker Hastert, Speaker Pelosi has made clear her edict to put an end to the House as a part-time Institution and return it to a full-time, fully functioning place of governance. We will hold her to that promise.

Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid were voted a mandate to probe for the truth. Though Pelosi contends "Impeachment is off the table," we patriots contend that it is not. When Pelosi says "Democrats don't get even," we say, Madame Speaker, we're not impeaching to get even. We're impeaching to make even... the Branches of government that have gotten out of line.

Let the proceedings begin!!

1. Ah yes, another attempt to stifle dissent from the Democrats
who do not favor impeachment now, 24/7. The implication is pretty clear: if you don't go along with the Impeachment Now crowd, then you are somehow a Republican dupe or somehow a freeper in reality. If you believe that the Democrats gained control of Congress with an impeachment mandate you are seriously mistaken. I would love to see a list of Democrats who ran on an impeachment platform, making that the most important issue above all others. Does anybody have one?

The last time I checked, Pelosi, Conyers, and my Senator Feingold are Democrats. I back their decisions as far as if and when impeachment occurs because they understand clearly that there will be no conviction in the Senate. They also understand that most of the American people expect the Democrats to do something other than impeachment for the next 2 years. If that is what happens, there will be political price to pay come 2008.

11. We're Americans! We can handle whatever we need to handle.
We're not wusses!

That's my answer to this stuff. For heaven's sake. Since when are Americans frightened, fearful, timid people?

2. This Impeachment won't be a waste of anyone's time..
Unlike the failed Clinton smear-

Republicans love a smear campaign. They are always short on facts. (reality)
Democrats rely on facts and the Truth to set US FREE!

5. Yes, impeachment would just be too "upsetting"...
I'm being sarcastic. I agree with the author.

There is a whole school of thought (based, in my opinion, on middle-class fears of anger and decisive action) that believes we must all be protected from too harsh truths, and appropriate responses to those truths. "If everyone would just calm down and be nice, it will work out for the best." Crap. A buried corpse will continue to stink up the place until no one can breath well enough to function properly. Far better to dig it up, determine who the murderer is, and name them. Even harsh truths are a relief when you've been fed lies until you can't think straight.

7. Republicans can't handle another impeachment
The government is erected to represent the will of the people. We have no kings and we damn sure are not having any dictators. Nancy and the congress will either have to get with the program or they will be pushed aside too. In the many past years congress was part of problem but we have to wait to see if they start to become part of the solution. We have waited this long to just to get our feet back in the saddle, we should be able to wait a little longer to unravel the mess that we were thrown off into.

9. Maybe big pharma can come up with a new impeachment anxiety pill,
so we can handle the stress and strain on throwing Bush, Cheney and Scalia for good measure out on their ass. On the other hand, maybe the Republican neocon propaganda squad can quit selling the American People short on what they can handle. Hell, after 6 years of psuedo Presidency by the corrupt incompetent ones, an impeachment will be like vacationing in Argentina.

10. Surely, you do not believe that Speaker-elect Pelosi
and the other Congress-elect actually -believe- Junior's posturing about welcoming bi-partisanship?

Junior is doing what Junior does.. he befouls himself and his 'policies' with every step, every word and he continues to negatively influence public and world opinion as always. His arrogance will not allow him to do or say anything different - his lies are abundant and his incompetancy is embarrassingly evident as he travels throughout the world. Junior cannot help himself and he will ensure impeachment procedings by his own actions. This is what people need to see for themselves.

Pelosi and the Dems know this. They have been on the receiving end of his 'policy making' for 6 years now and they -know- what is going on. So, why threaten impeachment now? Geez. Even I can see that they are merely biding their time until they are in power. This is lame duck time. Let Junior and his gaggle of loser geese keep on hanging themselves...there's a lot of rope left for them to use until January 3,

The Rethugs have been warned about the investigations and oversight to come, so a few subpoenas will be no surprise and they are expecting it. The surprise will come when the majority of Congress joins the American people in their call for impeachment.

IMO, our Congress-elect does not owe the Rethugs a heads up as to their plans regarding impeachment.
