W, Kenny Boy, and Rowland
Birds of a feather, folks.

I live in CT, a fairly recent transplant. This is about the most corrupt place I've ever seen. Mayor of one major city just got sent up the river for paying a hooker to screw her young children. The mayor of another major city sent up for all sorts of official corruption, bid rigging, etc. And the gov. Holy sh....., Governor John Rowland should be a Bush cabinet member. Oh wait...he almost was! Rowland was once in line for a top position in the Bush admin, but things started happening, and Bush dropped him.

Apparently, he doesn't lie well enough, even for Bush. Ironically, if he HAD gotten onboard the Bush gravy train, all this probably would have been buried by Ashcroft by now. Jeesus...when Bush drops you because you're too corrupt, you must be pretty bad!

Rowland Cottage Bill Just Paid
Years After Work Was Done, And With Questions Swirling, Contractor Receives`Substantial' Compensation

December 10, 2003
By JON LENDER, DAVE ALTIMARI, And EDMUND H. MAHONY Courant Staff Writers

A substantial portion of the cost of renovations to Gov. John G. Rowland's Litchfield cottage was not paid until recently, sources say, years after the work was done and as questions about the improvements began circulating in political and law enforcement circles.

All the governor has said on the subject came at a press conference last week, when he insisted that he spent more than $30,000 for the work and took out bank loans to finance the renovations. Rowland would not provide details on whom he paid, how much he paid them or when he made the payments.

But several sources told The Courant that sometime this fall contractor Brian Baker, a longtime Rowland friend and political supporter, received payment for work he supervised at Rowland's cottage starting in 1997.

The amount paid could not be obtained Tuesday, but two sources said it was "substantial."

1. Rowland is an embarrassment...
I grew up in CT, and my Dem parents and friends who still live there are plenty disgusted. And of course this gets no play outside CT.

2. It gets worse
Buried in the energy bill that didn't pass, was a bizarre provision which would require an act of Congress to turn off the cross-sound electrical cable to Long Island. Yes, we were going to sell our electricity to Long Island. Not really a big deal. But...

Of course, the contractor wound up bullshitting his bid, they didn't install the cable correctly, it isn't even buried in some places, it leaks insulation chemicals into oyster beds in others, so the state AG issued a moratorium back in the spring to shut of the cable permanently until it was fixed.

Well guess what? During the fake NE blackout, Rowland issued an "emergency" order to turn the cable back on, although it had nothing to do with anything related to the blackout. Nothing. But he rationalized it would help stabilize the energy grid or something.

And now...mysteriously, with not one single CT senator knowing where it came from, this provision was inserted into the energy bill. So now, months later, the cable still leaks deadly poisons into the sound, it is still prone to anchor and dredging damage because it is not buried to spec, but it generating cash! Yay! That is all that matters, right? And if the energy bill passes, don't expect it will EVER be fixed or turned off.

Maybe if everyone boycotted Long Island oysters or something. We can't impact the giant corps, they've obviously made their connections. I hate to use small business as a tool, but if they start suffering because of this, maybe they'll begin to pressure on the legislature. Who knows. It is all so disgusting.
