COLTS’ COACH THANKS GOD FOR CALLING TEAM’S SUPER BOWL PLAYS
Tony Dungy, the head coach of the Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts, not only thanked God for being on the Colts’ side, but for actually calling the offensive plays in the team’s victory over the Chicago Bears.

In a post-game press conference, Dungy explained that the Colts had taken the concept of “Eye in the Sky” to “a whole ‘nother level,” replacing their usual coach in the skybox with the Man who could really see the whole picture.

Asked what had happened with the Bears’ touchdown return on the opening kick-off, Dungy explained that God had not been assigned to coach the special teams, and in any event had arrived late for the game, after dealing with the most recent chaos in downtown Baghdad.

2. God has nothing better to do?
Nice to know he finds the time to direct football games but can't be bothered with the messes all over the world that really seem more urgent. But, that is only my humble opinion. Who am I to question these matters? God knows best.

3. WRONG!
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 11:40 AM by Don Davis
Eagler: Hate to tell ya' -- but this is simply a parody of coaches and players cavalierly invoking God as an instrument of who wins games. If you want to look at it another way, you could say that their statements are blasphemous. Besides, everyone knows that God likes baseball better.

4. If there was a God, he/she/it would be insulted.
Why would God care about a football game? Why would he choose sides? I wish the pro sports leagues would stop marrying their games with religion and militarism/nationalism...it takes away from the whole spirit of the competition.

8. I always knew God hated Chicago
that city was always too much fun for the sky wizard to ignore. People should be cowering in fear of his smiting abilities rather than doing stuff they enjoy.

9. invoking God as the reason for winning a game is blasphemy of the worst kind . .
the world would be a hell of a lot better off if people just kept their religious beliefs to themselves -- where they belong . . .

14. You seem to have no trouble expressing yours
and you are free to do so. What he said is no different than thanking his grandma or his dog.the problem with what he said is is your problem not his.

10. Yes, he is free to say that, but the minute he does, his credibility is gone IMO
I don't think that God watches over us means that he calls the plays.

because he invoked God several times in the I have a dream speech.

19. I know it's satire but
All these sports figures who routinely thank God for their teams winning- or for their ability to play just don't seem to get that things like that border on the blasphemous.

21. I think where most of them are coming from...
...is that they strive for excellence in their lives to glorify God - and when they succeed, they want those watching to know that the gifts (talent, etc.) they have been given come from God, so that HE may receive the glory. Its basis is humility, I believe.
