Iran Supplying Weapons to Iraqi Insurgency? Cheney Abbott and Bush Costello say so! Sort of?!?!?
http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_steven_l_070215_iran_supplying_weapo.htm

There is no slapstick comedian in history that can hold a candle to the Bush administration when it comes to administration accusations that Iran is supplying explosives and other weapons to the Iraqi insurgency.

"They are supplying them", "no they aren't". "Yes they are, and it is the Iranian army supplying them". "It isn't the Iranian army, but Iran is supplying them". "It is not only the Iranian army supplying them, but it is an elite group of the Iranian army supplying them". "It isn't an elite group of the Iranian army supplying them". "It is not only an elite group of the Iranian army supplying them, but if it is that group, the Iranian government must be involved at the highest levels". Then we come to the latest, "we are not sure it is the elite group of the Iranian army and we are not sure if the Iranian government is involved".

It makes me want to say who is on first, what is on second and I don't know is third base. (Google "Who is on first" if you don't understand the reference).

I wonder what made the administration take a break on the unsubstantiated Iran nuclear weapons accusations. Is this a change in tactic since it was impossible to make the nuclear charges stick?

Administration spokespeople whine that they do not understand why they are repeatedly asked whether the administration intends to attack Iran despite many assertions to the contrary. What is so hard to understand? When you are so desperate to get accusations out there that you sound silly, as this administration has been concerning Iran, SOMETHING, some agenda has to be behind it. Even worse, the administration is reminding the world that, post Iraq and at least for now, America's word cannot be trusted regarding some of the more important questions of the day.

What makes "the 30%" of the country stay with Bush and the Republicans?

I see many people asking the question why some republican faithful stay positive on the Bush administration. It is a case of selective hearing.

These people hear the above regarding Iran and what they come away with is "The leaders of the Iranian government are supplying the Iraqi insurgency with weapons to attack US troops" and they will be certain this is fact. You will see this in the future asserted as if it is divine providence on Right wing blogs like Free Republic. It is just like their firm belief in the ridiculous offhanded assertion by a few administration officials that Saddam sent thousands of metric tons of WMD to Syria and Iran without a lick of it being discovered in the week before the invasion. It is just like their belief that Iran is in the process of producing nuclear weapons despite constant on the ground and in person oversight and regular reports by the IAEA that state almost unequivocally that Iran is not enriching Uranium to anywhere near the requirements for weapons use.

All it takes to maintain the ecclesiastical support of the Republican base is for an official to make a comment on a Right wing talk show that purports to explain away a discrepancy. It doesn't matter how crazy the assertion is, they want to believe in their party and its leaders so badly they will buy it and for them that will become their reality.

All of this has me wondering when this slapstick yet macabre duo of Cheney Abbott and Bush Costello will finally end. Yes, I know that January 21, 2009 the next team takes over, that is not the subject of my question. I am wondering when someone or some group will force them to change. Use whatever reason and description you want, criminal, lying, preposterous and slapstick incompetence, these people need to be reined in and they need to be reined in quickly. Who is going to do it? Is it going to be the rest of the GOP leadership? Is it going to be the new Democratic leadership in congress? Who is going to step up and stop this train wreck of an administration before they go and do something stupid again?

1. They have no intelligence or spy network in Iran or Syria
for that matter. They destroyed any inside information they could have received when they destroyed Valerie Plame's Middle East intelligence operation, Brewster Jennings. So whatever they are saying is either fiction or comes from unreliable sources. Don't believe them.

I hope that Congress will step in but am afraid they won't because they are all thinking about the next election now.
