What the Libby convictions mean
This is of course pending his appeals but we already know two things for certain.

ONE
This whole episode has exposed the real relationship between the Beltway press and this White House meaning the Republican Party. Leaks are used all the time and by both parties but we saw representatives of three of the biggest news powerhouses (NYT, NBC, and TIME) used as tools. They were clearly complicit with it too. This wasn't about a farm bill or deregulating an industry -as important as those can be- this was about committing fellow Americans to war and occupying for the foreseeable future a nation on the other side of the world.

TWO
The Bush administration has been laid bare for all to see. There never were any clothes. We all know the talking point about "There was no underlying crime" we have heard that for months but they got caught lying about something that they couldn't get caught doing. All of them have shown themselves to be well titled experienced frauds. So much for "the adults being in charge" their complete and systematic incompetence is now cemented into the history books.

4. The press can't seem to get it right - a journalist can't be protected
Edited on Tue Mar-06-07 03:30 PM by higher class
if they are participants in a set-up - in this case dealing with a scheme.

They should only be protected when they are A TOTALLY INDEPENDENT JOURNALIST WHO OPERATES BETWEEN A PERPETRATOR AND A VICTIM OR INDEPENDENT OF ANY SCHEME THAT THEY ARE INVESTIGATING THAT THEY THEMSELVES ARE NOT PARTICIPATING IN. We all know that every so-called journalist in this Brewster-Jennings fiasco - and their employers - are not independent of this White House, but are in fact, operatives for this White House.

To ask rational people to expect that these journalist should be protected operators for the right wing cause is disgusting. Novak, Russert, Miller, Cooper, Woodward - all operators along with the corporations who pay them.

They should be ashamed of themselves. Operatives are operatives first and journalists never when it comes to the independence of our legal system and Constitution.

I think there should be an addendum to make this clear because political operatives are trying to mask this so they may continue to be operatives and protected.
