Bush administration awash in scandals

By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer Sun Apr 22, 1:41 PM ET

WASHINGTON - Campaigning in 2000, Texas Gov. George W. Bush would repeatedly raise his right hand as if taking an oath and vow to "restore honor and integrity" to the White House. He pledged to usher in a new era of bipartisanship.

The dual themes of honesty and bipartisanship struck a chord with many voters and helped propel Bush to the White House in one of the nation's closest-ever elections. Americans re-elected him in 2004 after he characterized himself as best suited to protect a nation at war.

Now, with fewer than two years left of his second term, the Bush administration is embroiled in multiple scandals and ethics investigations. The war in
Iraq still rages. Bush's approval ratings are hovering in the mid-30s. And Democratic-Republican relations have seldom been more rancorous.

..............

"From the very beginning, this administration emphasized loyalty over competence. And at some point, that catches up with you," said Paul Light, a professor of public policy at New York University. He said the increase in scandals and investigations also reflects the "natural decay" that happens late in a second presidential term as many experienced people have already left and those remaining start focusing on their financial futures.

Some recent incidents:.......

1. BULLSHIT! Americans did not elect that son of a bitch either time.
Friggin' liars.

I do agree that the administration is sinking under the weight of its own corruption. That's undeniable.

BUT THE BASTARD WAS NEVER ELECTED pResident.

21. I'd say the Neocons/PNAC had the playbook literally sitting on the shelf..
Its the perfect combination. A 'likeable' candidate (likeable cause he can lie like a rug), a gameplan (PNAC), lots of Washington insiders (Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, et al), and a WIN AT ANY COST attitude personified in Rove.

...barring a few rare and unintended exceptions, the opposite of every single thing Bush says, turns out to be true.

Junior wasn't elected, it was his lackeys on the Supreme Court that stopped the count in Florida combined with all of the Election fraud.

10. Unfortunately, he was elected. Twice.
By the Electoral College, and that's the only vote that signifies under our absurd system.

He got to that point through fraud and corruption, and the Electoral College is an anti-democratic travesty, but nonetheless, under our system Bush was properly elected twice.

11. Plus, it certainly should have been no surprise that the elections were stolen.
Especially in 2004 there should have been no doubt. If somebody lets you know they are going to pick your pocket and still succeed in doing it, that does make you look rather silly. Whatever became of all of those lawyers all over the country during the 2004 election who were supposed to keep watch and prevent our pockets from being picked again?

26. In fact, I agree with you
I refuse to call him president, and I'll never consider him legitimate.

But legally, I'm wrong. Even with honest elections, this situation will recur. We have to eliminate the Electoral College.

28. Bush STOLE the popular vote; Kerry won the TRUE vote by 66-58mm;
Edited on Mon Apr-23-07 04:14 PM by glengarry
Ending the Electoral College would be a good thing.
But it will not stop 2008 Election Fraud.
BushCo stole the popular votes NOT the electoral votes.

Kerry won the TRUE vote by 66-58mm.
Bush "won" the bogus, recorded vote by 62-59mm.

Kerry would have won the TRUE electoral vote by 336-202.
Bush "won" the bogus, recorded electoral vote by 286-252.

It's all here:

2004/2006 Election Fraud Analytics: Response to the TruthIsAll FAQ
Last Updated April 23, 2007 by TruthIsAll

Part I contains a comprehensive statistical analysis of 2004/2006 pre-election and exit polls. The 2004 National Exit Poll had Kerry winning by a steady 51-48% from 4pm (8649 respondents) to 12:22am (13047 respondents). But Bush won the 2pm Final NEP (13660 respondents) by 51-48%. In the Final, impossible weights and implausible vote shares were required to force a match to the recorded vote count. The True Vote Model determined that Kerry won the popular vote by 66.1-58.4 million (52.6-46.4%) and the electoral vote by 336-202.

much, much more....

29. Sure, ending the EC is not sufficient
Properly counting every vote and preventing vote suppression are also required.

But even if we're able to bring complete honesty to the casting and counting of the popular vote, the EC makes it almost certain that it will happen again that the loser of the popular vote will officially win the presidency.

And as 2000 demonstrated, the EC makes election stealing that much easier.

15. He lost the popular vote in 2000 and most likely stole it in 2004.
If Democrats had taken back the House in 2002, I doubt he could have stolen the election in 2004.

That’s an awful lot of creeps that still support this homicidal maniac, you would think that after the last 6 years that no one in their right mind would want this nightmare to continue, they must be getting some big pay offs from the GOPigs!

20. I never understood
...that "new era of bipartisanship" crap. As if the Republicans hadn't just spent the previous eight years in a concerted campaign of obstructionism and character assassination. The very fact that the press uncritically repeated such cant represents the triumph of propaganda over reality.
