Are we the majority or not? That is the question. I have no doubts that a tremendous number of my fellow Americans want the war in Iraq to end, our troops brought home immediately, no war on Iran, and George Bush and Dick Cheney removed from office post haste. Is there any doubt about the validity of my assertions (Only the same bogus aspersions as are cast at the proofs of Bush’s and Cheney’s criminality)?
I don’t think there is any doubt. Not even in the highest offices in the land is there doubt that the American people want Bush and his dirty politicians and profiteers out of power. There is however, a pretense, a polite affectation that only a minority, a fringe element, of Americans want Bush impeached. It’s a fiction, a humbug, a simulacrum, a bluff and a stall. The Emperor has no clothes and never has. It’s time to put a stop to this fairy tale and make Unitary Executive Bush pay the piper.
Tragically for our troops and the Iraqi people, far too many of those individuals who rushed to display American flags, put yellow ribbon magnets on their cars, and swallowed the administration’s lies; are not being as quick to replace all those patriotic gew gaws with impeachment stickers or anything else remotely anti-Bush. This phenomenon is a major obstacle to realizing impeachment. It’s also proving irrefutably deadly to the same troops that supposedly benefitted from this surfeit of consumer patriotism.
I remember back awhile, a Republican was asked if she would vote for George Bush, Sr. She told the reporter that there was no way she would vote for a slippery fish like Bush. Yet, when asked who, then, she would vote for; she replied tartly, “For the Republican nominee.” Yeh, thanks.
Today, we seem to be bedeviled by the same purposeful obfuscation. Yes, it is true that if forced to choose between Bush and the Constitution; they would take the Constitution. Yes, Americans believe Bush must go; but are they willing to actually go on the record about that? Are they willing to demonstrate that? Are they willing to put a single IMPEACH FOR PEACE bumper sticker on their car? Or, make a solitary call to their Representatives?
I hope the answer proves to be a resounding YES!
