Hussein son’s photos: Washington exposes its own barbarism
Release of Hussein son’s photos: Washington exposes its own barbarism
By Barry Grey
25 July 2003

The world was subjected to a gruesome and barbaric spectacle on Thursday when the Bush administration released photographs of the mutilated corpses of Saddam Hussein’s sons, Uday and Qusay, ambushed and killed by American forces on July 22.

The American cable news networks wasted no time in displaying blowups of the bloody heads and torsos of the dead men and beaming the images into homes across the US and around the world. US government spokesmen and media commentators could barely conceal their glee at the sight of the shattered bodies, and their satisfaction over inflicting the pictures on a global audience.

Nothing the World Socialist Web Site could say would be a more devastating indictment of the degenerates who wield power in the US and their media accomplices than their own self-exposure. The overwhelming majority of people around the world, and especially in the US, will feel only revulsion and shame at this exhibition of sadism.

Whatever one thinks of the deposed Iraqi ruler and his sons—who were undoubtedly guilty of reprehensible crimes—the actions of the Bush administration in slaughtering Uday and Qusay Hussein and then gloating over their dead bodies demonstrate that the US ruling elite has nothing to learn from its enemies when it comes to savagery and contempt for human life.

1. To be fair here
The gubbmint was damned if you do, damned if you don't. They cannot possibly have won this argument either way they chose to play it. They had just two choices: publish the photos so people can see for their own eyes, or don't publish them and ask people to take it on trust.

Now you have people castigating them for showing them whereas if they chose NOT to, we'd all be saying, 'show us the proof.'

Cna't see how any administration could have got this one right.

2. Maybe you show the pictures/bodies to a limited number of trusted Iraqis
Tribe/clan leaders, local government officials, etc. Native Iraqis who are trusted by large numbers of the population, who can then confirm to everyone that the deaths are real.

But you're probably right. There was no way to do this correctly.

4. That makes sense.
Get a mortician to make the bodies look presentable and let mebmers of the press and local Iraqi leaders see them. No cameras, no recording devices permited. Therefore there is independant confermation that they are dead and the photos don't get splased all over the world.

3. That's just it. They can't do anything right anymore..............
They have lost trust, credibility and face with the world. They are making Americans look like blood thirsty savages who attacked a third world country who clearly had no way to defend themselves against the American power. No WMD's and no way to defend their own country. Now the people of Iraq are picking off soldiers there, even if it is one at a time - it still shows the world that the Iraqis as a people are "stronger" and "better people" because they are standing up against the big bully who ransacked their country.

It stinks for America. Everything they do now looks bad. I don't live in the USA so I am maybe seeing this from the outside like everyone else in the world. The Bush admin. (Rumsfeld, Rice and the Cabal, etc.) have made the US look like monsters who will slaughter poor, defenseless people in order to steal their resources, rip them off from their money, kill and maim their children, even kill their own citizens (9/11) in order to advance their government, corporations and rich friends. It is just so corrupt and evil.

Bush cannot be pres. again. The US is just ruined now because of these people! You as a population are not even "free" anymore and these "freeper" people are holding all of you captive with their hate, anger and prejudices. It's very ugly.
