BOB HERBERT: Mr. Mayor, the Nader of ’08?
A huge ego and a few billion dollars can cause an awful lot of mischief.

Michael Bloomberg is weighing a possible run for the White House. This is frightening for a couple of reasons. First, consider the prospect of a half-billion-dollars worth of 30-second Bloomberg-for-president ads running all day and all night on television screens in every part of the country.

Americans of every persuasion will have images of the mayor of New York all but burned into their retinas.

For Democrats, the other reason is much more frightening. If Mr. Bloomberg actually decides to run, he risks becoming the Ralph Nader of 2008, drawing votes away from the Democratic nominee and helping to install yet another Republican in the White House.

(Mr. Nader is also making noises about running next year, but it’s generally agreed that Mr. Bloomberg has a much more credible shot at being a spoiler.).......

1. It Sure Wouldn't be Repiglican Votes Bloomberg Would Be Siphoning Off
Meet next year's "Ralph Nader".

I think Mr. Bloomberg has been made a very nice offer by the Repiglickin's.
"Spending his own money". How convenient for them.
I'm sure it will all be repaid with interest.
Why else would he do this? He must know he's not going to win.
All he can do is spoil it for the Democrats.
Why would he want to do that?

2. I'm hoping Bloomberg is just emiting egotistic blather in the tradition of Donald Trump
when he toyed with the media, saying that he was considering a run for the White House in 2000. (Remember, he said he'd have Oprah as a running mate?)

If he isn't running or angling for a VP slot, then I guess maybe he wants to hold the position of king-maker by being a "player" and throwing his support at whomever would give him the best benefits in the event of winning the election.
