Civics Quiz: Is Cheney Part of the Executive Branch?

Share A quick civics quiz: Is the vice president part of the executive branch? You might think the answer is obvious, but apparently not to Vice President Dick Cheney.

The man a heartbeat away from the Oval Office asserts that some rules that apply to everyone else in the executive branch do not apply to him.

Cheney has refused to comply with a request from the National Archives to hand over classified documents. The vice president's office insists that, unlike every other employee of the executive branch, that rule does not include him and his staff.

At a White House briefing, deputy press secretary Dana Perino was asked if the president believes Cheney is part of the executive branch.

"I think that's an interesting constitutional question, and I think that lots of people can debate it," Perino said.

So elusive is this vice president, the New Yorker magazine once ran a cartoon in which theologians debated the existence of Cheney.

1. I would go with yes.

Considering the V.P. has offices in the Executive Office Building he / she is part
of the executive branch.

From Wiki .... on the E.O.B..

<The building continues to house various agencies that compose the President's Executive Office, such as
the Office of the Vice President, the Office of Management and Budget, and the National Security Council.>

2. I agree he's not part of the Executive Branch and Congress should deny
him any money that goes toward the budget of the executive branch AND demand he pay back the money he's received for the past six years and then be tried for fraud and unlawful use of federal funds.

Let's see how quickly he sees himself as a member of the Executive Branch when it's a choice of oversight versus jail time.

4. True-- either he is part of the Government or he is not, and...
if he is not, then he should be treated as any other private citizen.

Perhaps he could be considered a member of the Senate, considering his Constitutional role there, and be subject to Senate ethics and disclosure rules.

5. Yes, DUH!
The office of the Vice Presidency is established under Article II of the United States Constitution, which deals with the Executive Branch. Originally, the Vice President was the runner-up in the national presidential race.

6. Could this country be so wrong???
For 231 years the law makers and citizens of the United States of America have believed that the President and the Vice President were the executive branch of this country. The constitution tells us this. The founding fathers told us this. So for 231 years we have been lied to. It took all this time for cheney, the brilliant, to find this out. To tell us that the vice president is a member of the legislative branch of government.

What is the IQ of this gensus? Doesn't he deserve to immediately be made our president and bush pushed aside. Of course. cheney rules.
