Iraq report gives McCain a boost

By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer 8 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Gen. David Petraeus' high-profile report on Iraq is pumping new life into Sen. John McCain's presidential bid, his backers say, making the Arizona Republican appear prescient and courageous on the campaign's most vital issue.

Whether the new dynamic in Iraq can salvage McCain's troubled campaign is far from certain. But he is wooing voters with a sense of momentum not seen since he drastically reduced his staff and spending two months ago.

Senators say McCain, more than any other presidential hopeful, benefited from Petraeus' claim that the seven-month-old troop escalation in Iraq was mostly a success and has helped stabilize key parts of the country.
..............

This week, McCain launched a "No Surrender" tour of Iowa with a clear "I-told-you-so message." His allies hope it will give him a new edge over GOP rivals, including Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney.

2. I hope some DUer has a chance to catch McCain's tour and ask a couple of questions for me.
1.) Who, Senator McCain, do you think we could surrender to? The Iraqis, whose country we've destroyed? Who, exactly, is there to surrender to if we so wanted?

2.)Who is the 'enemy'?

3.) What has been the 'mission' that you want to see accomplished? To completely kill all Iraqi civilians? To secure the oil for US interests? What is the military's objective?
