Pa. woman cited for cursing at toilet

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/10/16/pa_woman_cited_for_cursing_at_toilet?mode=PF

October 16, 2007

SCRANTON, Pa. --Talk about a potty mouth. A Scranton woman who allegedly shouted profanities at her overflowing toilet within earshot of a neighbor was cited for disorderly conduct, authorities said.

Dawn Herb could face up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $300.

"It doesn't make any sense. I was in my house. It's not like I was outside or drunk," Herb told The Times-Tribune of Scranton. "The toilet was overflowing and leaking down into the kitchen and I was yelling (for my daughter) to get the mop."

Herb doesn't recall exactly what she said, but she admitted letting more than a few choice words fly near an open bathroom window Thursday night.

Her next-door neighbor, a city police officer who was off-duty at the time, asked her to keep it down, police said. When she continued, the officer called police.

14. Er, did you read the very next sentence? She admitted to cursing near an open window.

Regardless, this is stupid. A judge will probably throw the charge out.

24. That's why they say sarcasm is the hardest form of humor. Sometimes it just goes over others' heads.
Ce la vie. Me, I'll stick with the tried and true fuck, shit, and Goddamn it. ;)

17. Last I checked that's a 3 letter word.
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 01:38 AM by FREEWILL56
Good thing she didn't scream bush. Now that's a dirty 4 letter word.
As to the charges, I would think maybe disturbing the peace with a warning to not do it again, but disorderly conduct? Come to think of it that cop would've had to yell to tell her for her to shut up from his place making him guilty of charges. He should try yelling shutup at the top of his lungs a few times in his library and see if they believe him to be disturbing the peace or disorderly conduct.

8. I got a visit from the cops for yelling at my ethernet cable
I was trying to untangle a huge length of cable that had gotten wedged under the door jam of my office and the more I tried to sort it out, the more of a clusterfuck it became until I finally started screaming at it and kicking the door that I couldn't close. (I believe I was yelling, "Why won't you close, you fucking bastard? Stop thwarting me!" (That's what I usually yell at everything. I do not like to be thwarted.) :D

So my downstairs neighbor called the cops and told them I was beating my son.

My son had been gone all weekend. :eyes:

When the cops saw the pile of cable, one of them said, "That would make me crazy, too."

28. That's happened to me before
I have screamed at my stupid computer and my upstairs neighbor (incidentally, also a cop!) called the cops on me and claimed they heard a man's voice. Unless my cat has started talking, there was no man's voice. Anyway the cop that came insisted on coming in, even though I knew I didn't have to let him. He said I DID have to let him in, because of a new domestic violence law. I believed him but now I think he was lying about that.

9. Mrs, Virgin Ears should get the fine
for knowing what the words meant. If she knew what the words meant, she was certainly old enough to tolerate them.

Given the provocation, I'm sure Mrs. Virgin Ears would have uttered the same words, herself.

I've left two boards here because of language police. I just hate that stuff.

12. My wife has attempted, at times, to control my language...
Without success, I may add. I don't curse AT her, but I reserve the right to say whatever the fuck I want otherwise.

I won't hang on a board long where someone attempts to censor what I say and how I say it. I'm stubborn that way.

13. No kidding
I once made a longshoreman blush, but the provocation was intense.

I can generally keep a lid on it and con people into thinking I'm a lady if I have to.

15. My oldest son was visiting a couple of years ago
and asked me, "why do you swear so much?"

I just looked at him and said, "compared to your mom, I'm an amateur. What are you talking about?"

He just grinned. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

I believe in expression and, frankly, I don't see the difference between saying "shit" and "poop." Just different word-symbols for the same damn thing. My kids don't cuss around me, but I imagine that'll change in a few years. As long as they learn judgment about when and where it's appropriate, I don't care what language they use around ME.

I'm weird that way, I guess.

People dress up the outside, and inside they are ghettos. Hope the cop gets his priorities straight. I got neighbors like that too, but mine are women.

And like someone else said, the POLICE OFFICER could have offered to help, rather than report her for cursing.
