What disturbs me as much as President Bush’s State of the Union uranium misstatement was his reaction when it was pointed out to him.

We elected George W. Bush as an honest, credible, “buck stops here” straight-shooter. Instead of being deeply angered at the revelation and trying to get to the bottom of it, the president passed the buck to the CIA. Then CIA head Tenet took the fall, and the president immediately announced his faith in Tenet’s (“darn good”) intelligence, and America was supposed to forget the whole thing.
