Dear Mit Romney,
I flipped a coin today. Heads, write about Pearl Harbor, tails, write a letter to you. It’s tails! There are more qualified people who could write about Pearl Harbor anyway.
You seem like a nice guy and you got a nice family too. This not personal but I think you are in error in your interpretation of the U.S Constitution. I watched your speech on C-Span at the Bushes Library Texas. You must have passed your course in public speaking in college. You are a good speaker but not a great orator. JFK was a great orator, but you? I could hear you speak at some board of directors in some corporation. Maybe you should seek a CEO job? OK, so you speak in a plain tonal matter and it’s kind of nasally.
As far of you being a Mormon? I couldn’t care less! Heck! You could be a Scientologist! I like Tom Cruise as an actor and that’s where it ends. I do not care about his personal like or his personal beliefs.
The forefather’s brilliance in their creation of the Constitution was very specific about Religion in the public square. Public property is a place of neutrality; the public street is a place where first amendment right can be demonstrated! However, public schools, courtrooms are places where government business takes place, secular objectivity must be maintained. Here comes a sports analogy! Can you imagine an umpire wearing a baseball cap of the opposition team playing? Would that be fair? The public square is like an umpire and it is neutral. That is why it is not an issue that you are a Mormon, your allegiance to the Constitution not to your church. Swell, you know that! So lets move on.
On subject of SECULARISM: I know that you are a politician and you are fishing for votes. Using religious right buzz phrases as, Secular Humanism or as another right wing broadcaster says: Secular progressives, is not only erroneous but it is non-existent. Secularism does exist in the U.S Constitution. It is called objectivity. We can’t call ourselves, “Objectivists” because folks would think we are followers of Ayn Rand and we are not. So we refer to our selves as, “Secularists”. When you say: Secularism is a religion, then you do yourself a disservice. Yes, you are trying to appeal to the religious right. You need their votes. But no matter what you say, they are going to reject you. Check this out:
http://www.mormonconspiracy.com/. The Religious right does not like you. It is safe to attack Atheists, agnostics, or even Satanists, because we not a big voting block. But come on dude! Isn’t objective truth worth defending? The American has a modicum of perspicacity. They can see who is pandering for votes.
That’s all I wanted to say, so you come knocking on my door on some Saturday offering me some pamphlets, I might invite you in and offer you a lemonade. You can watch me drink beer. You have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Ronnie Roach.
