Impeachment Play set for New York

The Culture Project Theater in Soho will present a staged reading of "I" - "The Impeachment Trial of George W. Bush" on Tuesday, January 22 at 7 pm.

I wrote the play with noted constitutional lawyer Bruce Fein.

If all goes well, they will mount a 4-5 week run of the play.The play is no show trial. As a matter of fact, even though there is a preponderance of evidence to convict, in the second act, Bush himself testifies and turns the tables on the Senators (the audience) who would vote to convict or exonerate.

Why is the play called “I”? Because the real guilty party is not just the President and it’s not just Congress, who have enabled his crimes. The real guilty party is you and I and every other American who has spent his/her time agonizing about Britney and Lindsay and OJ while our constitution burns.

Bruce’s point (and Bush makes it in the climax) is that 450,000 Americans sent telegrams to Nixon after the Saturday night massacre. 2,000,000 Americans called the White House after Nixon defied a court order. Congress saw those numbers and HAD to act.

So the goal, as Bruce and I see it, is to get Americans to see the play, to get what is happening to our country to spread the word that we the people must act – and force Congress to take up the issue of impeachment. .If you'd like more information, please email or call me.
