World Bank´s True Goal Exposed

Havana, Mar 5 (Prensa Latina) Belgian Doctor in Political Sciences Eric Toussaint accussed the World Bank of being an instrument of the foreign policy of the United States and its allies to subjugate developing countries.

For nearly 20 years, financial institutions and governments from crediting countries have imposed unpopular economic policies on the Third World, he stressed.

Toussaint presented his book "World Bank: Permanent Coup d'Etat. The Hidden Agenda of the Washington Consensus", at the 10th International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems, being held in Havana, Cuba.

The expert, who chairs the Committee for the Cancellation of the Third World's Debt, pointed out that those macroeconomic adjustments were implemented under the false promise that they would allow poor nations to find a way to prosperity and to get rid of debts.

Therefore, he said, the book proves that the WB and the International Monetary Fund are the two major tools of neocolonialism and allow imposing the US leadership in the world.

In addition, the policies of the WB, since its creation in 1944, have contributed to strengthening the rule of industrialized countries over the Third World.

Toussaint pointed out that his book reminds that the neoliberal model, after being imposed with support from dictatorships, has been maintained thanks to the yoke of the debt and permanent structural adjustments.

He noted that the book contains evidence that the WB, far from fostering development, has repeatedly supported dictatorial governments, violating human rights in the countries where its structural adjustments have been made.

Toussaint pointed out that after two decades of implementation, the situation in most countries has worsened, with a high social cost and negative impacts on human development.

In his book, the Belgian expert proposes the creation of a world fund to promote social development within the framework of the United Nations and in conjunction with regional banks.

As an example, he mentioned the recently created Bank of the Bolivarian Alternative for the People's of Our America (ALBA), which can fund common projects for real development in the member states and other southern nations.

1. I'd recommend reading "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man', which
...details exactly how it's done on the ground in these governments.

3. I keep wondering when...
...the author of that book will get harmed under suspicious circumstances. I'm surprised he hasn't yet, although he did have a hard time finding a publisher for the book.

6. Correct!
If you were to ask any body on the street about the WB they wouldn't have a clue. Most people would probably criticize the 3rd world country for not being grateful enough that we have enslaved them.

7. I remember when I was younger thinking third world governments must not be good at math
because they got in so much debt.
