JPMorgan Chase & Co. is eliminating 420 call service jobs in Phoenix and moving some of them overseas to its hub in Manila, Philippines.
Affected Chase employees are being told the bad news as they arrive to work Tuesday. Officials there are trying to inform employees before they learn their fate via news reports.
The job cuts will occur in phases throughout the rest of the year, and formal 60-day termination letters will be distributed accordingly, officials said.
All of the cuts will be retail customer service positions at Chase's Sky Harbor operations center, 1820 E. Sky Harbor Blvd., which employs about 2,000.
Chase spokeswoman Mary Jane Rogers said the move was a cost-cutting measure. Affected employees will be given career counseling and priority posting for other Chase positions in the Phoenix market and around the globe, she said.
Chase employs 9,000 in Arizona and has 475 current job openings in the state. Possible relocation sites include Arlington/Houston; Columbus, Ohio; Springfield, Mo.; and Troy, Mich.
