Chase cutting 420 jobs in Phoenix, moving some overseas
Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 2:59 PM MST

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is eliminating 420 call service jobs in Phoenix and moving some of them overseas to its hub in Manila, Philippines.

Affected Chase employees are being told the bad news as they arrive to work Tuesday. Officials there are trying to inform employees before they learn their fate via news reports.

The job cuts will occur in phases throughout the rest of the year, and formal 60-day termination letters will be distributed accordingly, officials said.

All of the cuts will be retail customer service positions at Chase's Sky Harbor operations center, 1820 E. Sky Harbor Blvd., which employs about 2,000.

Chase spokeswoman Mary Jane Rogers said the move was a cost-cutting measure. Affected employees will be given career counseling and priority posting for other Chase positions in the Phoenix market and around the globe, she said.

Chase employs 9,000 in Arizona and has 475 current job openings in the state. Possible relocation sites include Arlington/Houston; Columbus, Ohio; Springfield, Mo.; and Troy, Mich.

1. Seriously, I think it is now our duty to stop paying out credit cards..
This is the only way they will stop moving jobs overseas.. I think it is now our patriotic duty to do this. I'm not sure how many will comply... but I think it is necessary.

3. You're right.
I terminated my business with Chase when I found out that they outsourced all of their IT to India. I don't want my personal information traveing around the globe.

4. They hold my mortgage.. so, I do need to pay that.. All other CC
I have stopped paying.. really because I was forced to financially.. but part of my decision to not to "work" with them now is because I disagree with their business practices. I don't care if people in other countries have a job with the bank.. I don't like that they cut from one place for cheaper employees.. yet keep the high usury levels on the c.c.... Its a savings that only reaches the CEO and not the people using the service or the other employees in receiving more benefits or pay.

5. Right, Again.
Too bad others don't see it that way. Americans need to "wake up" to US Corporations obscene business practices.

obviously could care less about the American People, and only the profit that they gleaned over the past eight years. It is not just this company, but it is the idea that they are patriotic because they support the war, but not the people.
