'K.C. Star' Outsourcing Ad Production to India
Published: May 15, 2008 1:26 PM ET

CHICAGO The Kansas City Star will outsource some advertising production to India, its publisher told employees.

President and Publisher Mark Zieman said the work will be outsourced to Bangalore-based Infosys Technologies. As many as nine employees will lose their jobs in the paper's advertising services department.

"Given the historic transformation going on in our industry," Zieman wrote, "The Star must continue to find ways to run more efficiently in every area."

Creative work for print and online advertising will continue to be handled in-house, according to an unbylined report Thursday on the newspaper's Web site.

"And of course, our advertising customers will continue to interact with our local sales and design representatives," Zieman said.

Several other McClatchy Co.-owned papers have already outsourced ad services work, including its flagship Sacramento Bee.

3. You'd be surprised how much of this
I find daily. I only post a choice few. Much of the time, it's through foreign news sources, as well.

Some here believe in the practice of outsourcing/offshoring. They'll get a rude awakening when they realize that no job is safe, any longer.

2. McClatchy? I thought they were the good guys?
People need to drop their subscriptions, and tell them exactly WHY.

6. Here's an idea...
1) run a better website.. the current one is not user friendly at all

2) hire some competent journalists and editors

3) go back in time and don't build a huge new office that will instantly put you in the red

4) Actually report the local news with real journalists, instead of 13 yr old hacks.

5) Give up and accept that print media is dead.. invest everything in virtual space.
