Metro firm apologizes for yearbook photos
Metro firm apologizes for yearbook photos

Lifetouch Inc. of Eden Prairie said it will assume the cost of reproducing a Texas high school's yearbook where hundreds of student pictures were altered.

By JANET MOORE, Star Tribune

Last update: May 17, 2008 - 5:51 PM

A spokeswoman for an Eden Prairie firm that produced a yearbook for a Texas high school with bizarre altered photos of students has apologized.

Photos of about 580 McKinney High School students were altered by the company that produced the yearbooks, Lifetouch Inc. of Eden Prairie.

Some girls' heads were plunked on boys' bodies, and vice versa. Necks were stretched in some photos and clothing altered. Several students are wearing the same outfits. One student's arm is missing, and another girl appears to lack clothing altogether.

3. No explanation as to how this happened?
Was this a practical joke from a disgruntled employee?

5. From a Dallas newspaper ...
From Dallas News:

It is not the Lifetouch standard practice to alter images for yearbook publications," the company said.

But McKinney school officials said that they weren't looking for those types of alterations and that it doesn't explain why some of the changes were made.

"There's somewhat of an issue with accepting responsibility," McKinney school spokesman Cody Cunningham said.

4. Apparently, the company thought the school WANTED fucked-up pictures in their yearbook
Edited on Sat May-17-08 08:45 PM by IanDB1
Rollin chalked the situation up to a misunderstanding between Lifetouch and school officials. "Our people misinterpreted guidelines for the yearbook,'' she said.

Seriously!

In other words, "We're sorry. We thought you WANTED us to make a mockery of your students and fuck-up all their pictures. I admit, I thought it was odd at the time. But the customer is always right, so..."

I guess they outsourced the job to Koko the Gorilla.

"Yearbook good. Koko do job good. Good Koko. Banana now."

"Pay Koko now for yeabook or Koko eat Mister Rogers."

9. meaningful competition?
The article I read says that LifeTouch is one of the country's
largest private firms (of any kind? in the yearbook biz?).

Maybe that's the real problem. If LifeTouch has no meaningful
competition in its field, what does it matter if it messes up
a yearbook here and there? As with situations all across the
country, the solution might be methodical and aggressive
enforcement of the antitrust laws. The response of the company
seems quite lame and sort of "oh gosh, what a silly thing
to have happened." Sounds like they're not too worried
about other schools opting for an alternative yearbook
publisher to me.
